Okay a little while ago, I did a discussion asking ideas from you folks about how one can go about becoming an activist with animals rights...big time..
A lot of you made fantastic suggestions, and thank you
Well while your ideas were pouring in, I began to write to just about every animals rights organization going to get their ideas as well, from ASPCA, The Humane Society Of The United States, The Anti-Vivisection Society,Friends of Animals and yes, of course, PETA..and I still haven't finished as their are a LOT..thank goodness
The one real common denominator in response I've gotten is to become politically active...Now you may ask..how does one really do this..First, join the activist sector that almost every single of these organizations have...and no you don't have to spend a dime to donate if you don't want to. By signing up to the activist e-mail newsletters they will give you alerts of what new petitions there are to sign up for, and the one with PETA was the one that alerted me to the two bills that Assemblyman Gregory R. Ball is proposing to eliminate the puppy mill industry..but just in this, mine state...BUT, if each and every person does approach their elected officials and suggest the idea of bill proposals for certain animal rights in your own state, or country for ANY animal abuse issue, I'm sure they might take it into consideration where you are as well--no matter where you are
Each of these types of organizations will keep you updated of any proposed bills/laws that might be passed where you are.
Then there is this one website, The Coalition for Consumer Information on Cosmetics--If you remember I also posted that list of all the companies that still test their products on animals...and among my "research" I found out that there is no real purpose to test animals on products especially cosmetics...Unlike testing of animals for medications (which I'm against as well) and is a requirement by the FDA..IT IS NOT REQUIRED BY THE FDA to test on cosmetics or any chemical household products...so like, duh? Why is it done if it's not necessary?
The website is
http://www.leapingbunny.org/about_us.htm
They suggest people write to these companies that still do test on animals a "nice" letter and they even give a sample letter to base yours..many of these places you can email to them
http://www.leapingbunny.org/do.htm
Here's that website again if you want to start your own letter writing campaign to these companies
http://www.geari.org/companies-test-on-animals.html
Now one suggestion that several folks did to my discussion was to perhaps start my own website...and yes I do plan on doing that..it's going to take a lot of time and effort, for being the perfectionist that I am..LOL..I want to do a really good job of it...Kind of a comprehensive who' who and what's what information thing...Instead of a person having to search all over the darn web for each and every organization bit by bit...for me to have ALL that info in one place..also as was suggested too, to have on-line petitions kind of thing..I also plan to post some public domain photos of animals who have been victimized by the practice of experimentation/testing to bring a graphic realization of what actual animal testing looks like...no it won't be "nice" but some people I think really are living in some kind of denial of how cruel any kind of animal testing is
all this is in the planning stages with me...an awful lot of work is to be done...but I think many of you have come to realize how important this issue is with me
Now the whole purpose of this discussion is not to only update you want I'm doing and plan to do, but I would just love it if you too, started writing letters to those companies that still test on animals..using that "nice" sample letter that is on that one website.
As far as my website that I hope to develop...I want to make this a worldwide effort as the cruelties that happen to animals isn't just an "American" THING but all over. I even have a name for my "organization" kicking in my head as well...and of all things..based on a Nickelback song
If we don't have compassion for animals who can't speak of the terror and fear they must feel while being treated as subjects for experiments, how can we have compassion for people?
So really folks,,...if you're as passionate and compassionate as animals as I am..would you consider joining these groups, join their activists group to get their email alerts and to begin writing to these companies that still test on animals?
Thanks ever!

You may not like this response Pye but if you know me you shouldn't be surprised. I don't join groups. I do what I want when I want on any subject I want. Its much more free and I don't feel like being controlled by some special interest group. Plus if your organization screws up, it would suck to be affiliated with that. "Hey aren't you with ----? Wow, they really stepped in it, killing those salt water lobsters by putting them in a freshwater pond, didn't they!?" (this didn't happen but still its an example). One way or another they've got some sort of corruption in them. If you are passionate about something Pye, write your local politicians. I know its like pissing in the wind, but write them often enough and get others to do so to when there is something urgent going on.
Well Pye, I hope someone else can give you better advice on it. I'm a born loner when it comes to these things. Even when I'm a part of x or y group I usually act alone and I never get myself ordered around.

Like I said my plans isn't to become an organization per se like anyone of the known ones, like PETA...my idea is just to offer a wealth of info on how individuals can become active if they wish, and if they want to join the bigger groups fine...the idea simply is for people to take some kind of active role..and yes, it would include getting politically active..if more people got involved that way, we just might start seeing some real changes....Since we vote and put these people into office, then they should really listen to us--otherwise we can vote them out of office just as easily...don't think they want that

Oh don't worry too much Pye. I still harass people and organizations in the wrong. I also bother elected officials whenever I can. You are correct though, there should be more of a force in it. There are online forums and groups that keep up on things, but of course each has an agenda and people have to choose what they feel comfortable with.

I think you are marvelous for this, I personally don't support animal testing AT ALL for cosmetic purposes and unless someone can show me that there is really no other way, I would not support other reasons for testing.
I am so thrilled and happy to see another person apart from myself who is genuinely concerned for animals welfare.

Thank you :)
I don't believe in animal testing for medications either...how can meds be tested on animals to prove their safety when their biological make-up it so different than ours?...no wonder so many medications are being recalled

Thanks so much for all the info, Pye. I intend to visit all the sites you listed and will most like join some of the groups and I will definitely be writing some letters...you can consider it done! I know all our wonderful four-legged friends would thank you themselves if they could read, write and speak but since they can't I'd like to thank you on their behalf! I've believed all my life that if you don't have compassion for animals you can't have much for people either. It really restores my faith in humanity when I meet someone like you, who really cares about animals and is willing to spend some time trying to make a difference. You're an inspiration, hon!

Hi Pye, congrats on what you are planning to do and make as a site, and on what you do as involvement in the well being of animals with the different groups. It will cost time and lots of work but if you accomplish it - you'll feel so richly rewarded because of the value of the site :)
I cannot do much from where I am but you know hwomuch I care for animals myself and that i do whatever I can to help in my own small way.
It's such a shame that we humans do behave with animals worse than wild beasts, and should really be ashamed for all the troubles we are causing and the extinction of so many species world-wide and for solong already. Test on animals is SCANDALOUS, and can only hope and pray that things will be changeed little by little the more protests are coming in by politicians and via organisations
