We spent two weeks in and near Rapid City, S.D. From there it is less than two hours to any of a multitude of beautiful and interesting places. The tourist season was just over so prices were down. But the weather was perfect, sunny but not too hot. And the canyon drives were beautiful with the golden aspen leaves against the black-green pines. We spend a good bit of time in Custer State Park in the heart of the Black Hills. They have a "wildlife loop" that is a long and slow drive through acres and acres of bison, antelope, elk. At one point we parked in the middle of a bison herd and just sat there for an hour watching these amazing animals. We took over 600 pictures on this trip, so it will be a while before I'm through them all. But here is a sample.

We took over 600 photos! Don't imagine I'll get through them all anytime soon. But here is a White Buffalo Calf near Rapid City, S.D. The White Buffalo Calf is a sacred sign of great change in the Native Americans.
