How can a shy 26 year old make friends?

Hello all, I am a 26 year old female from PA usa. All my life I have been very shy. Highschool and College for me consisted of 2 or 3 real good friends and maybe a small handful of aquaintances, mostly I would eat by myself and keep to myself in class etc. I have severe social and general anxiety.

For a long time in highschool, when someone would talk to me I would find an excuse to leave or move my seat, etc because I would get so extremely nervous and uncomfortable. I never went to any of the dances or school functions.

I've had the same best friend now for over 20 years and only really close to her because we grew up together.

I do have a boyfriend currently, I have been with him for almost 5 years now. But he lives about 2 hours away so I only see him about once a month, so hanging out with him or his friends isn't really a viable option.

I'm what I would call a She-geek. I love videogames, anime, cosplay, roleplay, dnd, world of darkness etc. But I have no one to share my hobbies with.:< My boyfriend and I would always go out at halloween. It's my favorite holiday<3 even more than xmas, because I love costumes^^. But he told me that he has out grown the holiday and doesn't like costumes anymore.

A few months ago he told me that he doesn't like anime anymore and he has also "outgrown" that as well.

I really want to make some friends that share my interests. Maybe get back into roleplaying. I haven't gotten to play world of darkness or DND in 5 years now. My ex was my game master and the one who introduced me to table top gaming. It's hard to find another gaming group.

I'm not in school anymore. The place I currently work is very small, 1 manager and 2 or 3 coworkers, we get along fine, but none of them share my interests either. My town offers nothing in way of meeting people. I don't smoke, don't do drugs, and generally I really prefer not to drink. I just had my first drink last year, and only drink 1 or 2 drinks on special occasions (graduation, birthday, etc.) So bars aren't really the type of place I want to meet someone.

It's really hard for me to meet others. I think all the other geeks must be just as antisocial as myself:P When I do meet someone I find it hard to make friends or maintain the friendship. In college my best friend introduced me to some people, but they insisted that I was upset or mad or angry and kept asking me what they did wrong, I told them flat out that I was just shy but even so they still insisted that something must be wrong and that I didn't like them.

I do have alot of friends online, as most geeks do. But that doesn't really help in terms of hanging out doing stuff together. Any advice on how to make new friends at my age? I'm getting too old for this lol.
