How many people have looked at you funny or asked why you would want to be a Theatre Arts Major? get that quite a few times. I love the art of Theatre because it got me accepted by people. When I was in middle school quite a few guys would tease me, especially since I was very uncordinated in PE. This one guy would taunt me many times. Yelling at me when I didn't even run in time for a base during a PE round of baseball. Not like our lives were on the line or our grades if we didn't win the game. Then in high school I played the Narrator in The Good Doctor. This same guy who had yelled at me and taunted me for quite some stupid crap in middle school, came up to me after a performance and took a few seconds out of his life to tell me that I did a great job in the show. THAT is why I am a Theatre Arts Major

I enjoyed your theater discussion Theonow and I know what you mean about getting respect. Have you ever noticed that shy people make the best actors? Extroverts tend to bring too much of themselves to the character they play. For me it's a chance to virtually step out of myself and become someone else for a while. As another person, I can do and say and act anyway my character leads. Sometimes I even have a hard time coming back to myself after the show is over. For instance, I played the bad Dude in "To Kill a Mockingbird." I took that character home with me and almost drove my wife crazy with him. I hated myself every night until the play was over with. Needless to say, that was the first and last time I played the bad guy. My favorite kind of role is a comedic role. Everyone loves a comic and its invigorating to hear an audience laugh at something you do on stage. It makes you want to come back for more and more. I would love to discuss this more with you if you are interested. I have been acting and directing in community theater for more than 40 years now, and though I am an amateur I might be able impart something to you that might be of help. I don't make any money at it obviously, but I do it because I love it

That's a great story sing. I'm glad to hear another thespian's advice any time. Thanks for participating in the conversation and always love to hear the tales of a fellow actor.
