Think you personal pics are safe on myLot? |
I did, I thought my profile was MY space and that I was just being friendly and sharing bits of myself with my fellow myLotters. After all, I was here to socialize, meet new people and have some fun. Not be victimized and cyber stalked. Well, someone saved one of my pics and used it as their avatar and then went around myLot posting with it. Talk about fuming! They didnt just take a pic of me, they took a pic of me and my hubby, he has nothing to do with myLot, so why involve him? Thankfully myLot was responsive and removed the comments and Im not sure if they user wised up and removed the avatar, or if myLot did. But its gone now. So this is just a warning to all of you who have personal pix of yourself, your kids or your family to beware. If you p!ss someone off, they can save your pix to their pc and do God knows what with them. Ive since removed all my photos from my profile. What do you think of myLot making it where your pictures on your profile are safe from this type of abuse? Do you think you should have the right to share these without them being picked up and saved by some low life with a meaningless existence to exploit you? Bay xx

BayleighGray (1793) | 2 years ago | Your welcome, I was really shocked to see that they were following me around myLot and posting with a pic of me and my hubby!! I immediately removed them. Im just wondering how many of the other ones they took too. Worries me. Bay xx

2. sedel1027 (12318) | 2 years ago | There have been a few posts about this. If you think about it, unless you have a site where you cannot right click and "save image" anyone can steal your images. For awhile there was a rash of people stealing others avatars and using them as their own.
| |
| |
BayleighGray (1793) | 2 years ago | Gee thanks sedel! lol Im kidding. I wish I would have known about it, or atleast thought about it and tried it on another profile to see. I would have never posted them then. But I was trying to be social!! Not anymore though, Im going to be really careful about what I post and where from now on. Such a sh!tty way to learn about something. Bay xx

3. contuletz2007 (518) | 2 years ago | Unfortunately there are many sick people around us and their minds can think of things you can never imagine. I was always afraid of posting pictures of me (especially alone) on the internet, God knows what kind of freak finds it, edits it and then posts it on some adult site... Things like these can happen and it's awful. But like I said, there are many weirdos in this world. As for my pics on myLot, I sure do hope they're safe, I posted them for myself and my friends but who knows... Mylot should modify the site so that the pictures can't be saved in another computer, it's safer that way and I've seen many sites doing this.(especially those e-cards sites)

BayleighGray (1793) | 2 years ago | Hi Contuletz, Well honey I hope that no one has taken any of your pix. I dont like feeling vulverable and they certainly accomplished that! Im just going to believe in Karma and this person will get theirs 10 fold. Ive seen it happen too many times so I think it will happen to them or something worse. Im hoping for the worse here....lol I do think that myLot should design the site to take care of this problem. I sure hope that they do. Bay xx

BayleighGray (1793) | 2 years ago | Hi Curly, You were smart. I guess Im just a bit trusting about that. They will get theirs, I truly belive in Karma. Shame people just cant let things that dont belong to them be. Bay xx

5. loungeact (496) | 2 years ago | Very wise advice BayleighGray and I'll pay close attention. I'm sorry this happened to you - some people just 'don't get it', do they? Identity theft is a major problem now and it can start with just one picture. I'm glad to hear that mylot admin dealt with the problem. So --- do you really look like a pumpkin? lol
| |
| |
BayleighGray (1793) | 2 years ago | Haha very funny.:) Yeah Im not sure what others they took. Im trying not to think about it. Easier said than done. Well I hope they are satisified with their actions, Karma is going to bite them in their a** sometime in the future. hehe Bay xx
| |
loungeact (496) | 2 years ago | Karma can certainly be a wonderful thing. BTW, I may not like Halloween, but I do like pumpkins. lol
| |
BayleighGray (1793) | 2 years ago | Thank you Lounge! Dont you think he is just adorable!??! hehe When looking for a Halloween avatar, I just couldnt pass him up! Bay xx
| |
loungeact (496) | 2 years ago | Don't tell anyone - but he made me go out and actually buy one for my porch this year! For the first time in many years I will make the neighbours happy and have a pumpkin with a silly face carved into it, on my front step. You have inspired me BayleighGray - congratulations. lol
| |
BayleighGray (1793) | 2 years ago | Awww!! I feel so honored!!!*bowing graciously* Well you can name him, well her!, hehe, Bay as well!! Im sure the passer-by's in your neighborhood will surly enjoy her presence on your porch!! Bay xx

loungeact (496) | 2 years ago | I actually took the time to go to our nearby Pumpkin Hollow this year. They specialize in 'breeding' coloured pumpkins of all kinds. White, blue, red, yellow, and all shades of green and orange. It was quite something to see. So I ended up with two pumpkins - a tall traditional orange one and a short round fat really really red one. I'm going to carve a big BOO in the red one and put a sign over both of them saying "Courtesy of my friend Bay!". Now how's that for someone who hates halloween? lol
| |
BayleighGray (1793) | 2 years ago | LOL How cool!! I have converted you!! I have never seen a coloured pumpkin before, that is really awesome. Well now Lounge I think if you can you will have to share your pumpkins on here with us. I would really like to see if at all possible! Im really honored!! Gosh your making me blush!! Bay xx
| |
loungeact (496) | 2 years ago | If I can get a picture of them uploaded from my program, I will do so. Can I post pics before I've had 100 posts though? If not, I'll search for a link to a website, so you can see them there. And I may be converted Bay, to finally having a pumpkin on my doorstep, but that doesn't mean I've embraced the whole Halloween thing! So stop blushing and get to work on the rest of the conversion. lololol....
| |
BayleighGray (1793) | 2 years ago | OH dam.n Lounge, no you cant. You have to have 500!! Shoot, I forgot all about that. Hmm, we can work something out if you can get one uploaded PM me on here and let me know!:) Bay xx
| |
loungeact (496) | 2 years ago | I thought so. I did read the guidelines. If you go to my pumpkin discussion copperkitten has posted a lovely link there. Guess I'll have to get busy and get myself 500 posts so I can upload pics and you can be sure my own pumpkins will front and centre. lol
| |
BayleighGray (1793) | 2 years ago | Oh Im glad I came by here, actually you dont have to wait. It should be there. I responded to a discussion today that a person posted a pic, and they had under 50! So I think if you just scroll down a bit, to the left of the text box will be an "add an image" link in blue. Otherwise In not really sure how they did it. I remember what discussion it was, I could go and ask! Bay xx
| |
loungeact (496) | 2 years ago | I'll give it a shot, but my computer just hates to share! lol So it may take some time before I can upload anything. I'm still not sure what I did to get my avatar! lol

6. martinha (591) | 2 years ago | If it's on the internet, anyone can take them. People shouldn't do it but they do, and if photos are open to everyone, they can be kept by anyone. Maybe there should be an option to restrict other people from seeing it, like, only your friends could see them or something like that. Of course they could put something like a popup to prevent people from clicking "save image" but there is always print screen... It's really difficult to prevent other people from seeing or taking your photos if they are online. The best choice is to put ony the ones you think it's safe.
| |
| |
BayleighGray (1793) | 2 years ago | Hi Martinha, Well I do know there are some sights that wont allow you to right click and save image, so that can be done. Im hoping my suggestion to myLot will be at the very least considered. Im just not going to post my pix any more. Its not worth it. I just thought I would let everyone one to be more careful about posting pix of themselve or their kids here on myLot. Obviously the copyright doesnt stop anyone. Thanks!:) Bay xx

7. goodnightmoon (1845) | 2 years ago | That's why I don't ever post my personal pictures anywhere on the Internet. You never know what people may do with them, or who will see them. It's just creepy. And I never have understood why people freely post their pictures on forums or myspace. Thank you for the warning though. It's a smart thing to consider. myLot seemed to have taken fast action in regards to the stalker, but elsewhere on the net (myspace, for example) you may not get that immediate attention or response. But what can you do? If you upload them, even if you cannot right-click save them, anyone can "print screen" and save it to a jpg. myLot should create a "private" collection where you could upload and share personal photos ONLY with friends, that would be a little safer. That way, no one who you don't mark as a friend would have access to them.... I'm sorry you had to experience that BayleighGray, I hope it's been completely taken care of! related resource: personal care
| |
| |
BayleighGray (1793) | 2 years ago | Hi goodnightmoon, I sure have been more careful. My mistake, but that still doesnt give anyone the right to take them. Myspace is private and you cant view anything on my page unless your a friend, and I have minimal friends and I know them personally they are not off the net. So thankfully Im safe there, although I did worry until I rationalized. lol Thanks, Im sure its not completely taken care of. Im sure the person has just opened yet another account and is on here somewhere waiting to stalk the next person. What a loser though that you have nothing better to do. It will come back to them, someone will do it to them or something far worse will happen. Karma baby! hehe Bay xx
| |
goodnightmoon (1845) | 2 years ago | I completely agree that it doesn't give others the right to take your pictures and harass you!! But if you share to the public, you never know what crazies might come across them. And the only safe measure is not to share them at all. Myspace CAN be private, but I know a lot of people who have theirs public, and I don't understand why they do that. Too many trusting people, I suppose? Anyway, I think that would be a great idea for myLot to consider allowing a "private" and "public" photo collection for us. Then we can feel comfortable uploading personal photos as long as we are careful of who we have as "friends" here....

BayleighGray (1793) | 2 years ago | I was thinking they could monitor ISP's so the same person cant open account after account when they get banned for abusive behavior. I mean anyone can open up a new email address and sign up again with fake information. That would be a good idea, having a public or private option on your profile here. I did makes some suggestions to myLot, I sure hope they listen. Although I was pretty upset when I found this out and sent them the email. Im just so happy that I was actually on here when all this happened and was able to catch it rather quickly, as well as myLot responding quickly. I will give them that! Bay xx
| |
goodnightmoon (1845) | 2 years ago | That would be a good idea. Proboards allow you to ban ISP addresses, rather than just user names or e-mails. It would be easy to create a whole new account, you'd still lose your earnings but a stalker may not care about that... Hopefully they take into account your suggestions! They clearly want the website to be as good as it can be, so they should at least make an effort to fix problems as members face them. I would think a public/private option would be easy enough to implement... Luckily you were able to catch it soon and e-mail them immediately before the situation got worst.

8. suspenseful (16475) | 2 years ago | I try not to piss anyone off, but I do have mu own opinion. I do have my photo as my avatar but unless someone on myLot was on the Alaskan Cruise and they were sitting at the table with us, I doubt they would do anything because they were nice people. The thing is not showing your photo makes people think you are afraid and I do not want to be taken as fearful. At least, I find that the African-Americans, Filipinos, and Chinese are not, plus some other nationalities so why should people who are white Americans or Canadian women be terrified to put up a photo taken at an nonidentical spot? One photo should be enough and it should not be in your home setting. The photo was taken of me on ship, way in the middle of the ocean (or the strait) with no other identical objects around, so no one is going to look at the background and know what street I live in, what house we have, etc.

BayleighGray (1793) | 2 years ago | Thanks suspenseful. I dont try either, well ok with the person who I think it was I did try. They were just going from discussion to discussion being so rude and not really putting anything of worth into the disucssion. Thats all I basically said to them, and then all the drama began. My star rating went to pot and I was being followed around myLot. Every disucssion I went too, there were there making more lude and rude comments. Regardless, that doesnt give them the right to take my photo and use it. Well I hope that I have taken care of it, Ive removed them all and I wont be putting up anymore. Bay xx

| 9. lc23112 (32) | 2 years ago | I definitely understand your concern; as you should be concerned. Many sickos out there in the world of the internet. One way (hope I am not restating what someone else said..didn't read all the responses) is to make sure you have watermarked your image. Even if they take it, they can't use very well. There are ways of protecting your photos and I am sure there is software that could help you/us with the image stealing wackos.:) Most photo softwares have some type of watermarking ability; but I think I am going to do a search and if there is something that would be able to disable the ability to "right click and save". I will let you know what I come up with.

BayleighGray (1793) | 2 years ago | Thank you Ic! I think the best way to protect them is to not post them, after the fact! lol I am not a member of any other social site like myLot, and the one I do have up is private and cant be viewed by just anyone. So I dont think I have a problem there, the friends that I have and allow, I know who they are and dont just let anyone in. Thanks for the link though, that was pretty useful. I hope others will click on it and give it a read too. Id hate to think anyone else would have to go through this if they dont have too. Bay xx
| |
| lc23112 (32) | 2 years ago | You are welcome and also correct. The only way to make sure is to not post any at all. It is sad though you can't have fun w/o wondering who could be using your images; especially if they use them inappropriately. Good luck!

10. Toni_07 (106) | 2 years ago | No matter how you look at it, it is STALKING,i dont like it, and if were you i would tell Tim about it. That is toooo friggin weird. Mylot should have a privacy thing, where we can set our pages at private....you know like other sites we know. Be Careful!! Love you,Toni xoxoxox

BayleighGray (1793) | 2 years ago | Oh no I cant tell him! He dont care that Im on here and stuff, but he will snap! He will have me staying off here if I do that! lol Yes I have my other page to private so no one can come along and take anything, you know I know everyone on there personally! Love you 2 xx

Toni_07 (106) | 2 years ago | Ohhh ok, well nevermind telling Tim then...bad idea. As for the other site i know everyone personally also except a few people, like Keith Urban and Mary J.
