I was at work today, against my better judgement... I came down with a horrible cold on Saturday, but I don't get paid for sick days and I had to take a day off last week for back problems. My customer remarked when we got to the job that 'someone probably should have stayed home today' and from that point on, kept remarking to my coworkers that I sounded 'gross' and that I shouldn't be working. To me, he was a complete JERK. He kept criticizing my work all morning! Then he had the nerve to tell my one coworker that I was doing the job 'all wrong' and that he should call up the company and complain about me. I've never had a customer complaint, and I've never been told I'm not doing the job right by anyone. It was like he developed an instant hate-on for me simply because I showed up at his house feeling under the weather.
And to boot.. it's my bloody birthday today!
Needless to say, I left work early because it's hard enough working when you're ill, but being criticized for doing a job that I was doing perfectly fine, and then to have it all happen on the one day of the year that should be a good day for you? Forget it.. no one needs that abuse.
So have you ever had anyone be rude to you purely because you were ill or not feeling well?

I have defiantly had co-workers be rude on days I was sick. It's always, "why didn't you stay home?" I just want to tell them its none of their business and to shut up...but I usually bite my tongue and tough out the day. I think they only do because the know that your to weak and exhausted to fight back that day. I just keep a mental note about the way I am treated when i'm not feeling well at work and dish it right back when they turn up sick.

Do you know what, my work colleagues are rude to me when I'm ill. I've been off for 7 weeks with stress and depression - I was suffering from panic attacks and all sorts and the first set of tablets they gave me made me worse.
I went back to work and was sent home for being an emotional wreck and I continued to go back to work for a few days and they kept sending me home at lunchtime. Because of the way people were being with me at work for having so much time off, I was bursting into tears for what appeared to be no reason.
I am now off sick again, but without a Doctor's certificate and I'm under review - maybe to get dismissed because I am off sick again.
I don't understand how people can be this nasty. The looks I get and the tone people use when talking to me really gets me down.
I hate going into work because I'm scared someone will turn round and have a go at me for being off for so long, hence the fact I'm not at work. It's like a vicious cycle.
To be honest, right now, I hope they sack me! Is that bad?
Happy birthday by the way and I hope you feel better soon!

There are millions of Indians working in government offices and most of them do not come to office in the morning and do not work in the afternoon. In dictionary the lazy word has to be replaced with Indian government servant. (even officers are called people's servants). Insted of serving people they boss over the people. They have more number of leave than school children who gets months of leave.
In private companies the salary is cut for taking extra holiday or leave beyond what is allotted. The objective of the private company is to maximise profits and they cannot afford to have employees who fall sick now and then. Therefore, one has to understand the realities and avoid taking leave or one should become a businessman and eventually become a boss.

oh definetly.i worked housekeeping in this one place
and a woman whose room i had to clean chewed me out bigtime about being sick and cleaning rooms, and preceeded to try to give me a further lecture.
i stopped her mid sentence and told her "look.i would have happily stayed in bed,but i was told if i didn't come in,i'd be fired.so direct your complaints upstairs."
some people just don't understand you can't always stay home for one reason or another.
i don't blame you for going home.i think i would have too.
