Lands as far as the eyes can see...

It’s such a joy to take a long drive to a mountain resort or a distant farm into any of the southern towns of my home province, Negros Occidental, here in my beautiful country--the Philippines. After long stretches of highways that bustle with a mix of business or pleasure on unpaved sidewalks, one is greeted by the lush expanse of sugarcane plantation and rice paddies. The natural green carpet offered by these agricultural vistas extend to hectares upon hectares, which literally translates the quote, “land as far as the eyes can see.” Yep, it's because hundreds of years ago, people didn't have a way of measuring land. So those in power used to stand on a hilltop and point to where his eyesight lands and says "This land is mine." Most of the descendants of those people are still enjoying affluence from their ancestors power. However, some have also misused their wealth...Some of their lands have also been subjected to land reform. HOwever, it just amazes to think how they did it before. Like pointing to land and identifying it as yours. Today, you'd be sent to jail or the psychiatric ward, or worse, beaten on the sidewalk for doing that. have you heard about this concept? good day! :-)

I heard about something like that here in my province... but they did not actually went to the hilltop and said "This land is mine"... what the ancestors of the large land owners did was cleared and cleaned the land from shrubs and high grasses... then the land became theirs... this was the trend when the spaniards left the Philippines... and i don't think this methond will ever be used again...
