Why did Harper Lee choose to end PART ONE of To Kill a Mockingbird after chapter 11? It doesn't make sense to me. Anyone think they know why?

I think it has something to do with the fact that she may not have written it strictly as a novel. A lot of people believe that her publishers simply pieced her notes on many different things about her life in her hometown together and put that into book format. I don't believe that but that is what many people believe. It would explain your question too, I think.
