Cyber-Hoax Blamed For Teen's Suicide!

This has got to be one of the most heartbreaking, senseless things I've heard of yet! A 13 year old girl from St. Louis committed suicide by hanging herself after being befriended - and then dumped - by what she thought to be a handsome teenaged boy on MySpace. As it turned out the boy never even existed, it was a neighbor of the girl who was the mother of her former friend. She did this to see if the deceased girl would talk badly about her daughter! After the imaginary boyfriend dumped her many derogatory posts were made on MySpace taunting the young victim and calling her names such as "fat". Under current laws there is nothing that can be done to this woman. I think this is as bad as it comes! That woman should be charged with SOMETHING, don't you think? My heart tells me murder but I know that would be hard to make stick but what kind of adult woman would do something like this to a child? Annie

That is a truly heartbreaking story, anniepa, and something should be done about the woman. The kind of woman who would do something like this is called "immature." She also acted irresponsibly. If there was some drama going on between the two ex-friends, that mother should have stayed out of it.

I don't think there's anyone who's had children that hasn't been aware of little tiffs between their child and a friend. I know it happened between me and my friends when I was a kid and my parents adamantly refused to get involved at all. I remember one time complaining to my dad that my best friend had done something "horrible" to me - who knows what anymore - and he said that's fine, I'll tell her never to call or come here again next time she comes around or calls. He saw the look on my face and laughed and told me not to worry, I'd be wanting her to sleep over the next night. He was right, of course! Sometimes these childhood fights are a little more serious but unless there's something involving threats of violence or true slander it's never wise for a parent to get in the middle. That mom was far less mature that most kids the ages of her daughter and the girl who took her own life. It's just so sad. Annie

I can't believe that any adult would stoop to that level just to see if another child was going to say bad things about her daughter. I'd say the woman needs major psychological help. "COUNT YOUR BLESSINGS" **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

It used to be we could depend on the parents to be the "grown-ups" in these spats between adolescents. I don't know what's going on in this world today, how could such a young person feel such despair that she'd take her own life! The mother who did this couldn't have known she'd go to such lengths but she had to know how cruel she was being and that it would hurt her teribly! There is nothing that can be done legally to this woman, let's just hope she suffers for what she's done. Annie

You reap what you sow. I am a living witness that what you do comes back on you. Believe me when I tell you, this mother will pay dearly for this. One way or another. What she did was-reading that made me so made, I can't even find words strong enough to express how I feel.

My feelings exactly! how could any mother be so rotten? I also have always believed that you reap what you sow, what goes around comes around and all those similar sayings. She'll get "hers" eventually; I hope she has enough of a conscience for it to eat away at her for the rest of her life! Annie

This is indeed, very heart breaking. Our children are very fragile and this woman should of known better than this. I agree with you, she should be charged with something. I have heard a lot of horror stories about myspace. My kids are all members there and I get scared for my youngest daughter. She is 24 years old and very guilible. She meets people in person that she meets on myspace. She makes sure it's in a public place, but I still get very scared about it.

I would charge her with an attempted to murder charge or something. Maybe something less like a charge to fraudulently soliciting a minor under false pretenses. A crime worth 1-2 years in jail and 6 month of collecting trash on the freeway. That way it sends a message to other adults that picking on someone small is not right and taunting them and harassing them under false pretenses is unethical. Where is the moral in this so call mother. What if someone did that to her kid. She should be punished. One thing is when she started and ended it but to push it over the limit buy calling the little girl names. That is going to far. Just my opinion.

I think that this "adult woman" should be brought to a mental hospital on an extended stay. For real.

Very tragic. I suspect the woman was not intending anything like this to happen. But she should take responsibility for her actions. If she has any decency (which is in doubt) she'll be living with remorse the rest of her life.

Hi. anniepa. What a sad and a childish thing to do as a mother. Why would she even stoop that low to see if another child will talk about her daughter? Who cares? It is very sad, that this girl has taken her life over a lie. It was never a guy that was leading her on, it was a mom! A woman! How cruel can she be? Now a life is gone all because of some silly and immature game that this mom has played. She may have gotten away with her wrongdoing on earth with what she has done, but when she leaves this world then she will meet her final punishment.
