Games Evolution: Are video games getting easier? | | Back in the good old days during Atari and the NES era, it seems that games back then are harder to finish. As the gaming industry evolved over the past few years, most of the games are easy. What are the factors of such? Would it be fair to say that "it is easier now compared to years ago?"? Well, one factor would be ease of control. Compare a PS2 Controller to an Atari Joystick. You won't have much to do as it has only 1 button and a stick. You might say it's easier, but think of it this way, the game you're playing will be limited as well as you don't have as much interaction with a controller with many buttons. Thus, in my opinion, the game adapts to the capability of the console/controllers/technology. Technology-wise, what's easier? a platformer or a game with a huge 3D full animation world (where you could rotate, pan, scan, zoom, etc the screen)? The platformer would be a cinch to finish. Another factor would be our preferences. Which games do we like? What type? for what age group? Is it offline or online? What console is it on? Lots of questions but one answer.... Did you enjoy it?^_^

A lot of the time those games were that hard, mostly, because they weren't very well designed, they were hard to control or just weren't all that good. Nowadays, games are much more intuitive, and they can be just as hard. I do admit that they do seem somewhat easier, and with the advent of cheat-codes built in, and the internet for walk-throughs and the like, its not surprise games seem easier than they used to

| | 3. skayzer (13) | 9 months ago | the factors of a games dificulty do depend on the factors U stated.About a year ago most RTS games were quite detailed and complex but of resent such games have become simplar;as an example take the game called DUNE, the factions in versions about 2 years ago were more diverse than the factions of the later versions. But that is in strategy games, in RPG games the dificulty changes (I Feel) according to the game producers as diferent producers design games with diferent systems(engines). So the reasent games can become easy as well as hard depending on the type of game(RTS,RPG,etc.) and the game producer.:)
