Why Does Starbucks Make it Difficult to Order

I confess I'm a Dunkin Donut customer usually, but I've recently started going to Starbucks, but the menu frustrates me.
Grande this, bla bla that. I had some vanilla somethig hot and it was good, but it's rolling dice when I order, I wonder if I'll like it.
Someone please tell me how to order a medium vanilla coffee at Starbucks.

The first time I ever was at a Starbucks was at an airport - I forget where now - and I just wanted a plain, simple cup of coffee as it was very early in the morning and we were on our way home waiting for our flight and hadn't had breakfast before leaving the hotel. I stood behind those ahead of me and listened as they ordered all this fancy stuff then when it was my turn they looked at me like I was from another planet as I tried to order a cup of coffee, not something with some fancy flavoring, not something a frothy, just a cup of coffee with cream or milk! Talk about frustrating, and I hadn't had my coffee so I wasn't even minimumally functioning!
