Do you have a (Ex) animal? puppie, cat, hamster... | | I am going to talk about my relashionship with my dog and how it ended. I want to people know that their buddy, with who they play, with who they talk, everything, can die in a short time. My dog was named Nani, she entered to my family when she was just 3 months old. I was young, so, we were the best friend of each other. When i was sad, i was frequently by her side, staring at her and giving some love, do that kind of stuff all animals love. She knew i was sad, so she never "run away from me", she was there, super quiet near me, making me some company, making me feeling better. We had lots of big and happy moments. After, moreless, 8 years, something grow up in her stomach, at first was a tiny ball, later was a huge ball... There was nothing to do. We could see her sad eyes, never shaking her tail, walking with her head lowered, since then, she never played with me again, she was always sitting next to me, so i could give her some love. She died at night, and that "huge ball" was cancer. She was smart, kind, lovely, like all animals. My point is: Give them love, treat them well, show them that you love your animal, NOT only when they are healthy. When they are sick, you should give them "double love". Many people abandon or give their animals when they are sick, don't do that! Sick animals could die quickly if they don't have someone looking up for him, loving him, treating him well, if he don't have something that makes him stuck in "this world" he would probably die quicker! If you see something unusual in your animal, go to the vet. Don't wait to see if it disappears! If you wait, when you go to the vet, it will probably too late! I will never surpass my puppie death, i will never try to "find a substitute" for her. All dogs are unique, so treat them like it was a person. I don't know if someone will read everything, this is huge. But if you read, share your story. People need to know what can happen, how to treat a sick dog, how to be with him, how to act, everything.

I hope you get another pet to love...

| | | 2. kksimone (62) | 10 months ago | I'm sorry to hear about your dog. My cat died two years ago. He was 18, so there wasn't very much we could do. He'd been sick for awhile and one day he just disappeared. It was really awful at the time, but, in retrospect, I think having to put him down would have just destroyed me. Last summer my sister's Pom got very sick. Daisy (the dog, not the sister) loves food, and after years of getting table scraps her gallbladder got infected. Our vet said this was something he'd only seen twice in about 20 years of veterinary work. Daisy's fine now, if missing a gallbladder, but she can't have fatty foods or regular dog treats now (tonight the pizza guy offered her a Milk Bone, and I felt like a complete jerk having to say she couldn't have it) I do have another cat now, but she's not a replacement. While I was still looking I decided that I'd get a female cat (the late cat was male) and one with different markings since any point of comparison just wouldn't be fair to the new cat. I know pet grief is very difficult, but I don't think you have to give up on owning a cat or dog after yours dies. Some people need more time than others, but I think sometimes it's a matter of being chosen by an animal.

|
| Ruibinha (82) | 10 months ago | I'm sorry for your cat, it is always difficult to lose a "family member". And i'm glad Daisy is fine now:) . I already thought about going to that place of abandon dogs, but, its quite hard. The majority of animals that are there were bad treated, sometimes the (ex)owner used violence against them. And that kind of trauma stays forever. I am afraid of "picking" a dog from that place, and then the dog gets crazy and do something against someone:| But i also think we should give another opportunity to them, they never (i suppose) bitted someone. But like me, many others think the same, and the kind animals that live in that place, stays there until they die.

| kksimone (62) | 10 months ago | In the States, most shelters will foster out problem dogs and try to see if they can be rehabilitated/rehomed before they're put up for adoption. And, like you said, there are a lot of kind animals who don't get adopted because of fears of "problem" animals or people who want a cute little kitten/puppy.
| |
|
|
| Ruibinha (82) | 10 months ago | At Portugal if an animal is problematic it is killed. And if there is no more space in shelters, they kill again... they don't have that kind of "program" .. unfortunately.

| | 3. tinybop (100) | 10 months ago | My story is sooooo similar to yours, I got Widdle (Cocapoo/ Schnauser) when I was 8 years old, she was the best dog I have ever had and I loved her very muc, she was my baby and we were together constantly, then when I was 20 I got married and left her at home with my mom and dad cause I thought she would be happiest where she had always lived but when I went home a week later my dad told me that I needed to take her home with me or she would not last another week, she was very sad and depressed without me. So I took her home and we lived happily for about 2 more years, then when I was 22 and she was 14, I noticed a lump on one of her nipples, so I took her to the vet and found out she had cancer, she kept getting sicker and sicke and it filled her stomache with cancer liquids and then one night she was so sick and wouldn't eat so I had my husband take us to the vet and had her put down so she was out of her misery, I had 14 wonderful years with her that I am very happy I had, and still to this day 9 years later, I miss her very much.

|
| Ruibinha (82) | 10 months ago | I'm sorry to hear:| . I really hate cancer, seems like its the disease of this century. You said something that I really agree with, when you said: "I had 14 wonderful years with her that i am very happy I had". I think every moment we spent with them, was moments that can't be described, can't be paid. There are lot of people who have pets, but (in my honest opinion) don't know what is this kind of relationship.

| | 4. passivepam (656) | 10 months ago | How sad I feel for you, I know how hard it is to lose a pet. I've lost a few of my cats to death, or had to get rid of them. And I'd cry for days. I now have 4 cats, and my husband and I love them to pieces. If anything would happen to one of them it would really hurt. I've always loved my pets, being an only child. And now not have any children. So our pets are our family.... Good luck to you, take care...Love be with you..

| Ruibinha (82) | 10 months ago | Death is a part of our lives, but the way they can die makes it hard to accept. Animals are pure, nothing compared to human nature. I wish some people could have animal's qualities. Pets are good fellows, i miss having one. But when my life gets better i'm sure i will have another:). Take care!

I would be completely devastated if i lost him. My family adopted him when I was 7, and we kind of grew up together, I see my dog like a sibling.

| | 7. dragonfly04 (139) | 10 months ago | me and my sisters have a pet dog, her name is teng. she's very friendly and lovable even to strangers, always wants to be hugged. the other day she went out of our gate unnoticed (she knows how to push open the gate if it is not locked) and didn't come back the whole night. we tried to look for her around our place but we couldn't find her. early the next morning she was outside our house wounded and bleeding (she has two wounds caused by stabbing) but we are happy she's alive.

|
|
| Ruibinha (82) | 10 months ago | I'm glad she is alive! She probably had a fight with some other dogs, being a nice and gentle dog isn't that good going out without anyone with her. Anyways, she is with you, that's what matters. Now, she probably learnt a lesson and maybe she won't do that again.

| | 8. lizzyt2007 (694) | 10 months ago | I used to have a dog and a rat. Not at the same time though. First for years going up I had a dog. Her name was Ruby. She was rott and part austrialan shepherd. My family got her when she was 1. She loved me alot and very loyal and protective. I loved her alot and still miss her. She was put down at 13yrs.because I guess blind and wouldn't get off her bed to do anything. My uncle had her at this age and he's she was getting worse and to old. Then years later I got married and we got a rat from our neighbors. I loved that rat. her name was "Baby" she was full grown adult. we had her for a few months then she got cancer and that prevented her from moving. I miss her. I will never get a another rat because I didn't have my son. That was a fun time I never want to visit again. I only want a another dog one of these days.

| Ruibinha (82) | 10 months ago | I'm sorry for your puppie. But I bet you had 12-13 wonderful years with her:) . I had 4 rats (hamsters), one died with cancer too, the other too died of oldness... I already had turtles, hamsters, a dog, lots of different birds. Animal nature is so beautiful, so many shapes, colors, races, sizes, everything. It is just perfect (in my opinion, of course). Thank you for sharing your story, I really hope you get another puppie. I can't wait to have another one, it makes me less alone and i trust more in dogs than people. So it would be perfect:)

| | 9. antoinette7777 (105) | 10 months ago | I have a dog when I was just three years old. I can't remember her name but I think I used to call her "bantay"- means guard in English. She was very big like a german shepherd, but she was just an ordinary mongrel. After a month I didn't saw her anymore. I cried because i miss her so much. She was always at my side guarding me. My mom told me that since my dog is very old and frail enough, my father decided to slaughter and cook her. Hu!hu!hu! poor dog. But now, dog slaughtering is already a crime in our country. Those who will do it will pay some cash and will be prison.
| |
| |
|
|
| Ruibinha (82) | 10 months ago | I'm very sorry to hear that... I hope the "cooking" part is just kidding (lol). I wished slaughtering was punished from my country, but they still do it when they have lots of abandon dogs/cats in their places. I think that is unfair... I really agree with that people going to prison, killing an animal is being an assassin too. We are animals also, but rational (even when sometimes we don't think some people are). I think most of the people who does that would be against if someone would do to a "non-house" person, someone who doesn't have an home, shelter, whatever. They would fight against it, because they are humans. In my honest opinion, if we don't do that to that people, why should we have the rights to do that to an animal? Anyways, i hope you surpassed your doggie, at least the "disappearing" part. But when we miss someone (even if it is our pet) is hard to surpass. Thanks for posting your experience:)
