2. kundalini444 (148) | 2 years ago | I've visited the beautiful island 7 times! (ok, please note that I'm italian)
Apart from archaeological and architecture beauties as greek temples and amphitheatres (Syracuse!) do not underestimate natural beauties: my suggestion: the river Alcantara as #1, and the volcano Etna as #2, then the Eolian Archipelago as #3
Let's not forget food beauties (sicilian cakes are the best) and girls!
As italian citizen (not sicilian) I am proud of such a gem in my country.

eric_v_b (104) | 2 years ago | I haven't been as lucky as you, I have only been there twice. I am originaly from a small town near Agrigento. E lei, da dove veine?
| |
|
|
kundalini444 (148) | 2 years ago | Then I suggest you a visit to Alcantara; often ignored by sicilian themselves, but it really deserves a visit! Sono di Caserta, le grotte dell'Alcantara meritano veramente, da vari anni sono anche riserva naturale!

4. JoMarch (2207) | 2 years ago | I have been many times because my father is from there...my grandma lives near messina, but my favourite place in sicily ever is taormina...i love the landscape and i love the streets with the little shops, and i love the international turists that made me escape from those horrible holidays i had to spend there, stuck with parents and a billion relatives i didnt even know that just looked at me like an alien because i lived in milan and i was a silent girl...then i love agrigento..i have been there 3 times i think..the first time i was a little girl and i was in awe at the temples...since then all teh times we went to sicily i would bug parents to take me there again but they would refuse because it was a 4 hours drive ... i wouldnt have minded it bcause i love going to places by car (we always drove from milan to messina and that was my fav part of the whole holiday, because i could just sit listening to my music in the car and looking at the landscapes of italy flow by the passenger window), and Pirandello was born and lived there and him being my fav writer, well i visited his house museum and so on...I have been to Siracusa as well, Erice, Segesta, Monreale, Tindari (tho i hate it there because it was traditional visit to the church there every year and i hated it and the story of the little girl falling off the cliff into the sea and being saved by the waters covering with sand always scared me..dont know why...the only visit there i liked was when parents finally decided to go see the roman ruins there..i dont remember if it was a theatre or something...but the church god its always the same every year, doesnt change hu) then i was in Savoca too (where they have the scary skeletons still preserved...yuck scary thing)...then gosh i dont remember but im sure we went somewhere else too:p oh yes, with school i went to Mozia as well...beautiful...and to Trapani, Modica, l'isola delle femmine, Caltagirone... gosh yeah i saw quite a bit of the place...
The thing is...Sicily is beautiful for turists...but not if you have relatives that you see once every 2 years...because otherwise you are ob liged to spend those 2/3 weeks of holidays visiting them ALL or they will get offended and you cant go to visit all the wonderful places this island has to offer...but as a place of history and culture and landscapes, then yes, it is a MUST SEE indeed...
Are you from Sicily? if so where?
