Have you ever tie-dyed anything? |
| |
| Ok, my duvet covers that were once plain white are now a rather unnappetising shade of beige. I have no idea how this came about but now I want to dye them. Tie dye sounds nice. Can anyone recommend how to go about tie dying? I have a few different colour dyes there. Preferably would like to dye these duvets 2 different colours or as many as possible. | | | | | |

| | When my best friend moved away with her hubby to a cold place I sent her a care package. Inside the package was a pair of long johns. I tried to tie die them, it was a horrible mess and they looked pretty funky. All I remember doing is getting the die ready in a big pot then I took some string and tied up bunches of the material and dumped it in and then took it out and allowed them to dry and untied. It kinda worked but I have yet to venture down that trail again. Peace and good luck! | | | | | | |

| | yeah back in the 70s we did that usually just boring one color shirts try it, its a lost art really when I start the new Sturbridge Village (old hippies) growing weed, tye dying, making granola, beading, etc. then maybe we can revive it as a lost art | | | | | | |

| | I have never tried this but I would suggest using the bathtub for it. Tie up the duvet using some wide rope then dip half of it into one color. Drain the tub after you've wrung out the duvet and get the other color ready in it. Then dip the other half. The only thing with doing it that way is that the "unnappetising shade of beige" will show through where you tied it. I think a better thing to do would be to dye it completely one color (the lighter shade) and then tie it and dye it the darker color. Then your lighter color will show through in the rings where it was tied. | | | | | | |

| | I've tye-died for years and it's very very simple. There is a problem though. You have to make sure that the duvet is as much cotton as it can be. 100 percent is the best. You can find tye-dying packs in stores or just the dye too. I'd get the packs because they have instructions and usually the colors turn out like they're supposed to. They also have the soda ash in it to help the colors hold better. A tip also, let your dyed items set for as long as you can with the rubber bands or strings, if you used strings still, on. The longer they set, the better the dyes stay. | | | | | | |
