Dead baby rabbits in a box while trying to eat lunch? |
Who thinks this is normal? I am one who does NOT think it is. Here is the full story.
My husband and I were invited to a certian families house for lunch, we arrive there and are greeted and told that the youngest child's baby rabbits had died that night from the cold.
Anyway a few different conversations later we are in the kitchen sitting at the kitchen table as lunch is being served up, the dead rabbits story came up again as there was another visitor at the table who had not been told, so we heard the story again, but this time the story was ended with the question.... do you want to see them? My husband and I thought it was a sick joke until we were informed that they dead rabbits bodies were infact behind my husband and I on the side table in a patterned box!!! I was horrified, they seemed to think nothing of it and the youngest jumped up grabbed the box and took the lid off and proudly showed that indeed the bodies were in the box. I expressed my disgust but they seemed not to care and placed the box with the dead rabbit bodies on the table. My husband and I looked at one another and in the end I made a point of I did not want to eat lunch with a box of 6 little dead rabbit bodies on the table.
Now I found this strange but they seemed to find it normal, but this is the same family that let the youngest keep a dead birds body wrapped in a tissue in a biscuit tin under their bed for a month, and would bring it out to show people!
I would like other peoples views on this and if it is 'normal' and other people do this kind of thing and why!!??
I hate to think what they will do when one of them pass away, prop them up at the table and carry on!!

1. Transdisc (18489) | 2 years ago | Hello fawcey:)
Good to see you.
I, for one, would not choose dead baby rabbits as a center piece for my dining table. I usually do not like any sort of center piece, as I don't like anything to get in the way of my conversing with others at the table, but if I had to choose a center piece, I might choose flowers or a portrait of myself to make the dining experience more pleasant for everyone.
I would not choose dead baby rabbits. Or dead adult rabbits either.

fawcey (429) | 2 years ago | Hi Transdisc,it is good to see you too.=) Nice to know you have a better choice for a center peice!!! Though I don't know about the portrait of yourself!!! Would that really make the dining experience pleasant for everyone? lol

palonghorn (3741) | 2 years ago | I agree, I don't think a dead anything would be my choice of a centerpiece or the hot topic of discussion. Although I'm not real sure about your picture, but hey it would be better then dead rabbits! lol

2. girlgonefishing (1224) | 2 years ago | That's disgusting! No, it's not normal at all. I'm a huge redneck and even though the table may be sitting on a deer skin rug, it is not proper to SAVE dead bodies of anything as a conversation piece.
| |
| |
fawcey (429) | 2 years ago | Thanks girlgonefishing I am glad to see you think it is not normal also!!This is one of many reasons I am glad I no longer see my family!!! (yes it was my own flesh and blood that keep dead animal bodies and show them off!!) To weird for words!!
| |
girlgonefishing (1224) | 2 years ago | Well your family has still got to be better than mine. I swear we would have never kept the body of anything. We ate everything. LOL I don't think there are many critters that run around in Mississippi that I haven't eaten!
| |
fawcey (429) | 2 years ago | LOL! Maybe I shouldn't complain! I suppose they didn't cook the dead baby bunnies up for lunch!!! I hope you guys would eat fresh critters, not ones that had been in a box on show!! lol

3. magikrose (4950) | 2 years ago | That is totally disgusting and not appropriate at a dinner table at all. I am not amused at all. They should have been burried right away as soon as they found out and not left in the box in the kitchen where people eat that can cause germs. EWWWWWW
| |
| |
fawcey (429) | 2 years ago | I agree magikrose, they should have buried them straight away, not place them in a box and had them sitting in the kitchen!!! My husband and I asked why hadn't they buried them and were told they hadn't got around to digging a hole, I said but do you have to have them in the kitchen!! They just didn't get it that it wasn't normal, they kept opening and looking at the little dead bodies and even asked if we wanted to hold one!! EWWWWWWWWW is right!=)

4. razcal2267 (9491) | 2 years ago | OMG! You have no idea hoe relieved I am to read that the rabbits were just the center piece. When you said"do you want to see them?" I had the image of them taking the lid off a tray and saying happy eating. LOL
I can deal with disgusting talk while eating a meal but to see something like that, no way. I do not think I would have reacted the way that you did though. I most likely would have just removed myself from the table as I said how gross I though it was.
| |
| |
fawcey (429) | 2 years ago | It was quite an uncomfortable meal, as even after they finally removed them from the kitchen area after we continued to complain it was as though it was us that was strange for having a problem with it. We no longer see the people involved for more reasons than just this weird and wacky episode, it would have been easier if they weren't related, but the were actually my now estranged family!! I am also glad they didn't serve them up!! LOL=) Tiny little pink baby rabbit bodies is not my kind of meal!! GROSS!

5. makatas (587) | 2 years ago | Of course it isnt normal, it is gross and very disgusting. Not only since they placed them on the table while lunch, but mainly because they kept them. What can they do with them, i wonder. And its even more disgusting if you think that their kids are aware and think its ok...
| |
| |
fawcey (429) | 2 years ago | Thanks makatas, I am glad to see so many others agree it is not normal and down right disgusting! The same child that had the dead rabbit bodies was also alowed to keep her dead pet budgie's body wrapped in tissues in an old biscuit tin under her bed!!! I think they allowed her to keep it for at least a month and she would pick it up out of the tin and show people!! She was upset when her budgie died they said so they let her keep him for a while, they are teaching them a very unhealthy way of dealing with death. It's ok sweetie just keep their body as a keepsake!! I am one who didn't think it was ok!!

fawcey (429) | 2 years ago | I agree kingmilo0, it is very messed up thing to do!! They didn't seem to think it was a sick thing, it wasn't the first time they had kept some poor animals dead body! I suppose at least the didn't have them in an glass box!

8. LittleMel (6484) | 2 years ago | really strange. how is it that the parents allow their children to do that? the least they can do is help the child bury them, not letting him keep the bodies. I won't be surprised if they are why the rabbits are dead, instead of flu, since they seem proud enough to show the bodies. what about the smell and then the disease the decaying bodies can cause? eeww
| |
| |
fawcey (429) | 2 years ago | Thanks Little Mel I am glad you think it is strange also, and I also wouldn't be surprised if they caused the rabbits death, it is quite scary when you think about it! They would probably like if they got some kind of disease, they would show it off maybe!=)

9. sedel1027 (12396) | 2 years ago | Fawcey, how did you sit there? I would have been so sick. I am really sensitive to such things though. I am one of those people who if they start thinking about where the food comes from they can't eat at all. I would have gotten up and left.
| |
| |
fawcey (429) | 2 years ago | Well sedel1027, I am not sure to tell you the truth. If it happened again I would have but at the time I was trying to keep the peace with my family as it was close to breaking point and we already had our differences so my husband and I tried to be civil, but looking back I wish at that time I had walked out, either way it was seen as me and my husband who were in the wrong, not them.*sigh* They know I am sensitive about that kind of thing to which makes it even more sick.=)

10. nmhschic2004 (1097) | 2 years ago | Yes i agree with you. I dont think that this is at all normal and i think its a bit disturbing. Maybe this is how they "deal" with the rabbits dying. And i definitely would not have eaten off that table. I would probably never want to eat there again if i was you.
| |
| |
fawcey (429) | 2 years ago | I also find it disturbing nmhschic2004, and I am glad to hear you wouldn't have eaten there again as I no longer do either!!!! It is not teaching the youngest who was 11 at the time how to deal with death in a healthy way that is for sure!=)
| |
nmhschic2004 (1097) | 2 years ago | Hopefully their child(ren) will be able to handle death the proper way. Maybe they just didnt realize what they were doing wasnt helping their 11 year old.
