I was just answering another persons discussion on whether we use real or artificial tree's, and it got me thinking about the rest of the world and what they do differently then we do in north america. Can any of you help me out and tell me what you or someone you know from a different part of the world does to celebrate ? Do they have santa too ? does he look different ? does he SAY HO HO HO ? lol

I'm in the US. We stopped putting up a tree when I was 11. When we did have a tree it was an artificial one. I don't ever remember having a real tree but my parents said they had one one year and my mother said never again. She said she was vacuuming up needles for months. When I lived in Taiwan a few years ago celebrating Xmas was not so widespread only among Christians. It wasn't a huge holiday over there when I was there. They don't have mall Santas. Most people didn't decorate their homes. Some stores decorated but I think they just did it for the foreigners. It's starting to gain momentum but it's not a huge holiday over there.

Just to add I witnessed a strange thing when I was there. There were many place I went and I did see a decorated tree but they left it up all year! A lot of times you'd just see a dusty plastic decorated tree sitting in a corner next to a door. I thought it was a little strange.

LOL I guess that IS a little strange, I wonder if it was part of xmas, or if it's some other sort of tradition that they have there. .

i would love to get a real tree but fake trees are so much easier. You dont have a mess to clean up after x-mas and you dont have a tree to thow away. fake ones you just take apart and put in a box for next year. i think in my state half of ppl buy a real tree and half buy a fake tree.

xmaslights - merry xmas
its also a one time puchase too! and although they dont make AS MUCH MESS, my fake tree still looses little needles everywhere, maybe cause its only the second time out of the box.

I celebrate christmas the normal way. I have an artificial tree, I spend the day with my parents and we open the presents at theres. The decs are up and around the place, we have lights in the window and we do christmassy things. ~Joey

Thank you for your response, your way of celebrating counts too! I was sort of hoping that i would get some input on the way people around the world celebrate, but i guess no one from AROUND the other side of the world wanted to answer my discussion! lol. oh well it was worth a shot!

we have a fake tree, its better for the environment...plus its less messy. as for santa he has to be big, fat and cuddley ;P and there has to be some traditions that we keep for christmas. otherwise it isnt as much fun

I hear that. I was wondering about different styles around the world. Like my friend in aussie says that Santa actually rides a kangaroo there. LOL i wonder if he's in the pouch like a little joey. lol.
