Can't really tell if he has rabies. Appears to be older but healthy.

usually dogs with rabies looks crazy.. but you said that he looks older well i think that it is only due to his age not because of rabies... and the environment is new to him that is why he is shy to eat the food you gave.. just be patient... take good care of him...

Ok, I tried to give him food now. He will not eat it. He looks healthy but appears to be an older dog.

Sometimes dogs just won't take food from strangers. When I first rescued my cocker spaniel, she wouldn't eat for me either, or take any treats from anyone. She finally ate the first night, but it was awhile before she'd take treats from us. Now she just tries to help herself to whatever is on our plates.

I went out again and tried to trace his tracks. It appears he is from the house two doors down.

It looks like he ate the food that we left when I went out again. This time I traced his tracks it took a while to get him to follow me in the snow. We went to the house 2 doors down, the people are at work. I tried to get him to stay there but he playfully followed me back home. He seems fine, not hungry just for attention. My neighbor in between came home and he went over there while he was plowing. Then he came back to sit on my cleaned off patio. I think he will be fine until the neighbors come home from work. I don't think they have gas or electricity over there, so he is probably just as warm on my patio. I will see if he needs anything and then take him home in the evening.
