Pain and managing it | | I have had a total of 13 knee sugeries(between both knees) and have had chronic pain b/c of the deteriorating knee joints. I am 49 years old and have had major problems with locating the right doctor who will finally replace both of my knees. I always hear how, b/c of my age, I'll have to have this done more than once and they want me to wait. I am not wanting to be under the knife again by any means, but living with constant (it is literally 24-7) pain and being shoved from one doctor to another is not what I want or can handle anymore. I have had to take many medications for this pain...The only real med that works for me and keeps me functional is Vicoden. Unfortunatly, it's not a favorite for any doctor to prescribe and it's been tough. I've even resorted to some illegal drugs (mj) to calm this pain down when I don't have my regular meds. I spend most days trying to walk without pain and now, b/c of how bad my knees have gotten, it's now taking out my right hip. It's hurting constantly...Anyone else have this trouble? If so, any thoughts? How are you coping?

My dad has had problems with his knees too and is about to have a second major operation to replace the cartlidge in his knee. Is there a pain management center in your area? Is there a specialist in the knee Dr field that you could see? Good luck!

| moodus (76) | 7 months ago | Well, thanks for the response...I know that 13 surgeries is a lot...In fact, that is entirely too many if you were to ask any normal person...Needless to say, that's what I have dealt with thus far and knowing that is the major reason behind the pain I am experiencing now has me angry..It was my choice to do the surgeries, but I really had no choice when I continually had problems that kept me from doing things...ANYWAY......I have been going to a doctor in my area that, for the time being, is helping...Of course, if you consider being medicated all the time good, well, I guess that's no good either...I did see a pain management doctor I my area and he only saw me twice before he recommended I see someone else...I am so sick of being tossed about like some rag doll. No one really knows what to do with/for me, so they throw their hands up and find someone else...It stinks...I am heading in for an MRI on the 2nd of March and maybe this doc will see if she can find anything wrong..I know that it's moving side to side a lot now and that never happened..Just gets way old and the pain is always just too much on any person ...

chapcity (942) | 7 months ago | When I was a teenager I had really bad acne and it continued right into adulthood it's hormonal, and I couldn't take the usual medications like the pill or another popular pill they hand out called roacutane, I reacted and vomited all over the place and got severe daily migraines. Anyway my gynaecologist and an endocrinologist both put their heads together and came up with a unusual solution that worked and it worked in just a few days. I still take this treatment today as it keeps the acne at bay, but if I miss it for just a few days I get acne again and I'm 32! Suggestion: why don't you get all the doctors that know your condition to contact eachother and exchange the info they habve on you then they can put their heads together to find the right solution rather than just passing you onto someone else? Or get your current doctor and a specialist to put their heads together and be communicating so that they can treat you without passing you on. I hope you can find a great solution for you and be pain free. XX

| moodus (76) | 7 months ago | Hey, thanks for the thoughts...I have asked my current doctor to get the information from these prior orthopedics and see what they can come up with. I mean, there has to be something that can be done...I do not want to spend the rest of my life on stupid pain meds...I know how awful they are for you and how am I going to feel when I finally HAVE to get off of them????
