President Bush signed a historic bill for renewable energy for South Dakota. "South Dakotans just received a huge Christmas present that will fuel our economy for decades to come,” said Reid Jensen, president of the South Dakota Corn Growers Association. “Ethanol is a $2 billion economic engine in South Dakota and within our borders we have the two largest ethanol producing companies in the world. The energy bill will open new opportunities for this state to become the source for renewable energy." This sounds great! It's about time. Now maybe South Dakota will set the standard for the rest of the US to get off fossil fuels!

I think before you think of Ethanol as a good alternative, you have to know a few things. Ethanol is made from corn and that means it will be taken out of food production and to feed pigs and other animals to go into fuel. This will mean that the price of food will go up, not only that package of frozen corn or corn on the cob and the mixed vegetables, tacos, etc. but also that ham or those pork chops. Ethanol does not last as long as a gallon of gas so you will have to fill up more and it is more expensive. This link explains the pros and cons, so before you think that you are saving money, please read and consider the consequences.

and you can now blame Al Gore and those idiots who believed we are going into Global Warming and it is our fault.

Funny you should mention food. I read an article in the sunday paper talking about tamales. The price of tamales has gone up in certain shops because of the price of corn going up. Things really do interconnect and have a ripple effect on everything.

I dont like the fact that we will be dependant on corn for fuel. Have you noticed that the farmers have been loosing more crops each year due to the weather? That is one thing we cannot do anything about. I am very hesitant to depend on corn.

well it is about time that we get some good news.It seems these days good news is hard to find.President Bush also signed another bill that says that we will get a pay raise on disability through the VA,they have not had a raise in a very long time,so this will be good for all the veterans..

Sounds good! Some places in Texas are trying to get in going (especially Willie Nelson's pals are). Then again, the price of corn is going up because of this. And that means the groceries will become more expensive. Sigh. I saw a story yesterday about wind power in Texas. Two of the biggest ranches in Texas are fighting over the use of those big wind energy users. Oh well.
