Anyone ever get a Grant

I have been thinking of trying to get a Grant. I see a bunch of things online saying how the government has to give away so much free money a year. And of course you pay to be able to apply for these grants online. My question to all of you is if you, or anybody you know had received a grant. And how did they go about applying for it? Or input from people who paid to do it online is welcomed too.
