artemis432 (2142) | 2 years ago | I wish we had plantable trees. Smaller younger trees in a pot, that we can plant after Christmas. They are a few dollars too as compared to upwards of fifty bucks for a tree! In essence, we'd be buying 'live trees'. Personally, I love the smell and tradition too. Of course many nurseries are good at planting a lot of seeding to replace the ones chopped down. And they do bio degrade and become rich compost which is a great thing.

pyewacket (11630) | 2 years ago | OH..in our neighborhood they do collect trees to recycle as mulch

artemis432 (2142) | 2 years ago | I'm glad they recycle them as mulch - they're a rich source of compost. There are other ways to be kind to the enviroment at Christmas.
We could get a 'live tree' (so we don't have to wait for the new ones to grow) we can use recycled paper for our gifts. Recylcle all the present paper of course, eat Christmas dinner by candlelight...and of course try to buy locally as much as possible - produce and meat. I'm sure you know all of these. Enjoy your tree - when do you take it down (I've been dreaming our house is fully decorated with a big tree! Next year - the works!)

artemis432 (2142) | 2 years ago | Ask her if she recycles paper and bottles and such. If she saves her food for composting if she washes her clothes in a washer and uses a dishwasher. There are other ways of depleting resoruces and not being conscious. Your tree is recycled, producing rich compost for more trees. How you effect the environment, is your business. No one should lecture you.

pyewacket (11630) | 2 years ago | To be honest that neighbor is a complete weirdo...LOL she was once threatened with eviction as her apt was deemed a fire and health hazard....she's a hoarder...one of those that can't throw anything out. Once the Health dept came in and literally took out about 30--yes 30 lawn size bags of garbage out from her apt....this was years ago. And know what? Her apt looks the same all over again. So I guess you can't say she recycles as she hoards everything--none of us can have dishwashers..and she probably uses the washer/dryers that are in the basement of our building. She comes along as a smug know it all, the type that listens to the news and radio talk shows all the time...but know what? She really doesn't know shat! Think among other things she does have low self-esteem which is probably why she tries to come across as an expert in everything to make herself look good. She is the classic type of always giving advice or lecturing about something but doesn't do anything to help herself out.

artemis432 (2142) | 2 years ago | That so sad - aren't you glad that instead of this you are a helpful, compassionate, caring, artistic inidividual that has so much to give, unlike her who takes energy!

pyewacket (11630) | 2 years ago | Yes, I often get reflective and think I'm so glad I'm me. I can't even imagine what it's really like to live like my neighbor, I think that in itself would trigger off a lot of emotional problems just to live like that

3. book1962 (14669) | 2 years ago | When I was a child we always had a live tree for Christmas. I didnt think too much about the fact the tree was actually killed then for a little more than two weeks as a Christmas Tree. I have to add that I come from a Silesian Catholic family and that means that the Christmas season actually ends Feb 2 and then the tree is taken out, possibly no sooner than this.
I have never had a Christmas Tree myself since I moved out in 1993 and now my husband came up with this subject again in the beginning of december. I left the decision up to him but said it would be better to have an artificial tree because I dont see the point why a tree should lose its life for two weeks only. Thats what we did, he bought an artificial tree and I feel much better about trees and their life now.

artemis432 (2142) | 2 years ago | So did you enjoy decorating your tree? Isn't it convenient to be able to just use the same tree next year!

|
book1962 (14669) | 2 years ago | my husband was the one who wanted the tree and so I let him decorate it to his own taste. Mine would have been different but as I said, it was his wish and so he is the one who does that.

4. Sissygrl (5760) | 2 years ago | I got a fake tree. I have had it for a few years now. I do feel bad that so many tree's are cut down each year, just to satisfy our silly need to have the smell of a tree inside. . A fake tree and a wreath would dothe same thing:) Less mess as well in the end.

5. drknlvly6781 (3165) | 2 years ago | I have never had a real Christmas tree, and probably would be miserable if I got one. My mother has very sensitive sinuses, and cannot be around a live tree. I have a lot of the same allergies she does, so its very likely that if I tried to get a live tree I would spend Christmas sneezing, snotted-up, and miserable lol.

7. Aurone (2551) | 2 years ago | I have a fake Christmas tree because I am allergic to live ones. But in my home town they recycle Christmas trees by dumping them in the local lake which provides habitat for the fish population.
