| | Disconnect and reconnect the IDE cable to the motherboard and to the cd drive. Sometimes the problem is with the IDE cable, loose connection. Even though you know for sure that it's connected already, just try to connect it again. | | | | | | |

| | Now, when the CD Drive is not being displayed on your computer, one, of either four things is happening. The first, and least likely thing, is that your CD Drive is just old now, and is not capable of being displayed on your computer. The second possibility is that you might not have the power supply cord attached to the CD Drive cord, thus allowing it not to get any power to it. The third thing that could be happening is that the ribbon that connects the CD Drive to the computer is either not plugged in, or turned the wrong way. The last possibility is that the jumper for the CD Drive might be set to the wrong setting. If you are running two things on one ribbon, be sure you have one set to Master/CS [depending on your computers configuration] and the other set to a slave. If they ribbon is on a Hard Drive to CD Drive to motherboard, be sure that the hard drive is the master/CS. Always, always, always, make the hard drive the master/CS. | | | | | | |

| | My bet is on the jumper setting. My friend recently bought the sony 20x dvd writer and the jumper was set to master, once he changed it to slave it was working like a charm. | | | |

| | Setting the jumper to slave doesn't work unless there is another drive connected to that same ribbon as master. Master is drive 0, slave is drive 1. The computer will look for drive 0, and will stop there if it can't find it. | | | |

| | It has to be an unplugged cable, or a faulty one. Check whether you have plugged the power cable on the CD. Also check if the IDE cable is connected both on the CD and the motherboard. If your computer is not a very old one, the IDE cable cannot be pluged the wrong way. If toy have a really old computer check if you can plug the cable the other way round. | | | |

| | If all you did was swap drives, and you never changed the jumper pin, the most likely problem is that your ribbon is loose or has a short. Try unplugging the ribbon and plugging it back in. If that doesn't work, try swapping ribbons (they're cheap; make sure you compare gauge with your existing cable). | | | | | | |

| | Hello healer. First of all, check if your CD-Rom is physically connected to your computer. Go to "My Computer". Click "View System Information", under System Properties, click "Hardware" tab, then click "Device Manager" button. Now you will see a plus (+) sign beside "DVD/CD-Rom Drives." Do you see any CDRom device connected? At least there should be one appear under the heading. If you see nothing appears on it, you should open up your computer and check if both power and data ribbon cables are connected to the CDRom drive. While your computer is turn off, remove again the two cables from the connectors on the back of the drive and reseat them properly. Make sure you also check the ribbon cable. It should be plugged properly into your motherboard. Restart your computer, if the CD-Rom drive does not appear in "My Computer" or "Device Manager", your CD-Rom probably not working. Good luck and let us know if you able to fix your computer. | | | | | | |
