One year anniversary with company- appropriate gift? |
| |
| Help myLot friends! I need suggestions for gift giving. My husband and I own a landscape maintenance company. It is still somewhat small and growing. However, this month we have a customer that has been with us for one year. It's our first one! I would really like to figure out a gift to send to customers when they have reached that milestone. I can't figure something out in the price range that seems appropriate, though. I wanted to spend no more than $5 - $10, and I would like for the gift to be something that I can send to each customer who reaches the one year mark. I have ruled out Starbuck's cards because of the high Mormon population in our city. I was thinking a Blockbuster gift certificate. Any other ideas? I also want it to be something I can send easily through the mail rather than having to deliver it. Thanks in advance! | | | | | |

| | Sorry for being just the smallest bit ignorant in this discussion, but what do the mormons have against Starbucks? I personally don't go there, too expensive for high-falluting coffee, but I have never heard of this group being against the corporate chain. | | | | | | |

| | Mormons don't drink coffee or tea as part of their religion. The reason I'm hesitant to send a Starbuck's card to any of our customers is that we don't know them well enough to know which customers we may be offending. You didn't sound ignorant, by the way! I'm sorry I forget that in other areas the Mormon beliefs aren't as well known as they are in my area. | | | |

| | I do not really have any idea's for you. But you would really need to look into the do's and dont's for Mormon's I would think. If they are allowed to watch video's the voucher idea would be great. | | | | | | |

| | I have several good friends who are Mormons, so I have a good sounding board there. They are allowed to watch videos, and I think a $10 gift card for Blockbuster would cover a movie rental plus some popcorn. I just don't know if that is enough to say thank you. Would you appreciate that as a gift or think we were cheap? | | | |

| | No I would not think you were cheap. As I was not expecting a gift in the first place, my only thought would be,how nice and thoughtful you were. | | | |

| | Thanks for being honest. My husband and I were talking about this again last night. He fears that us looking cheap would be worse than not doing anything at all. I think sometimes he forgets that we are still a very small company. I can understand where he is coming from, though. | | | |

| | Tell hubby once he has to send out hundreds of vouchers he will love the idea. There is no way anyone is going to think you are cheap. As I said before no one is expecting a gift from you, everyone is going to think what a wonderful idea it is. | | | |

| | I tried using that arguement, but it didn't go over well. After telling him about what was being suggested here he decided he liked the idea of a discount on the customer's bill the most. That was really surprising. What was even more surprising is that he wants to do a 50% discount on the next bill. Ouch! That's okay, we'll go ahead and try it for this first customer and see how it goes over. It's only around a $50 discount, but I think that will really add up once we are doing several of them per year. | | | |

| | Ouch alright that is a big discount.Once you start getting more and more customers it will add up over time. I will wish you Good Night now it is my bedtime. This is so weird, it is your morning and my night. | | | |

| | Yeah, it is a big discount that will add up. My husband has a good point. It is only off one bill, and if it keeps a customer for another year it is well worth it. That makes sense if I sit down and really think about it. It does cost us much more than $50 to get a new customer to replace that one. Good Night, Goodie! | | | |

| | i think much better if you make a landscape maintenance pic or printed on a dress will be easy & nice even you mada in a cap,it will be easy & if the customer will just visit in your place either you can make a pen or calendar that will be good, gigift is no value if not come from our heart, judge me if im wrong. Happy new year | | | | | | |

| | We run our business out of our home, so we don't have any visitors to our place. I definitely agree that a gift is of no value if it doesn't come from the heart. That's why I want to do something that is fun for all of the customers when they reach the one year mark without offending any of them. | | | |

| | If I were a customer and were to be given a gift. I would want a percent off my next bill. that just the best you can do for a person who has been this loyal to you. I have customers who return back to me for purses and send me customers. I give both of them free gifts. It's nothing more satisfying than reading those nice emails I receive. I make handbags so a matching coin purse goes a long way or a child size free purse. You could get more referrals to your company this way. Go to http://www.vistaprint .com and have some coupons made up free. You could really do well with those t-shirts. I have two made with my logo and business info. By the summer I plan to have 7 one for each day of the week. | | | | | | |

| | Thanks for giving your opinion based on the view point of the customer. I do send a gift to the refering customer when they send business our way, too. I didn't know vista prints did coupons. That's good to know! We had them do some business cards for us awhile back. I was thinking the discount on their next bill was kind of boring when I was thinking about it myself, but you have definitely given me some food for thought! | | | |

| | Well the first year anniversary for a marriage is paper......so I would have something made from paper with your company logo on it. Like the notepads that you can hang on the refrigerator to make your shopping lists. That would also give you more exposure to their friends etc. who visit their house...like free advertising for you but a nice gift for them. Or sticky notes for their desk...something like that! | | | | | | |

| | I had that same thought about the paper anniversary! Unfortunately to have pads made up you have to order in bulk. At least that's what I've found so far. The business can't afford to put out the kind of money that would take right at this time. I do like that line of thinking, though! | | | |

| | Maybe you can work out a deal with a garden store in your area so they could get a gift card for a plant or something? House plant or in the ground plant, but since you do landscape maintenance, you could even do a one time $10 discount for the anniversary.... | | | | | | |

| | Let me ask you this... If the average customer's bill is $110 for the month does $10 discount really make an impression on the customer? I just don't want the discount to look cheap, where as a gift card takes effort and thought. I would like to do a discount on the bill, I just wasn't sure what the customer would think of it. | | | |

| | Well, $10 doesn't seem too great off of that, but the garden store is an idea don't you think? | | | |

| | a gift certificate would be a good idea...it's something a customer would appreciate because it would give him the choice of how to use the certificate...or maybe you could give them a one time discount for a service they would avail from you...they might be motivated to continue patronizing your company in that way...i hope i helped you...have a nice day! | | | | | | |

| | I was thinking a discount would motivate the customer to continue using our services, too. I just wasn't sure how it would look as far as being of interest as compared to a gift card. It sounds like most people are for the idea of the discount, though! | | | |

| | I can not really think of anything that someone else has not already said. I agree with the people who have suggested that you give out a discount certificate/coupon for a service that your business offers or perhaps, even offer one or a selection of your services for free, of the customer's choice if it's possible for you to do so on any of them. That is something which would be both beneficial and of interest to all of your customers. Where as Blockbuster certificates and other things may or may not appeal to everyone. I also think the people who have recommended T-shirts or things of that nature, that represent your business in some way, are a good idea. Most everyone wears T-shirts, so it is a practical gift that most anyone would enjoy and appreciate. Also, it would be a way to sort of advertise your business as well. | | | | | | |

| | My husband and I were talking about this last night after I told him some of the things that were being brought up here. I guess he has decided that we are going to give a 50% discount on their next monthly bill. As the company bookkeeper I had a heart attack, I'm sure. But, I can see his point. It's only about $50 once per year per customer. It really doesn't come out of our pocket that way, but it is an impressive gift that will motivate the customer to stay with us. Wow, I sure wish some of the people we do business with would give that kind of discount! LOL | | | |

| | I don't mean to sound thrifty, I would suggest a customized desk calendar with a picture of the works you have done, for other customers. I think they would love that, since they have been with you for a year and know your work. | | | | | | |

| | Oh, please do sound thrifty! That is me all the way. LOL My husband tells me I'm being too thrifty in this area. He is really worried that looking cheap would be worse than doing nothing at all. | | | |
