Both are really good games.
When comparing the two, I take the online gameplay out of the equation to judge them fairly.
In terms of immersion and gameplay, the edge goes to Assassin's Creed because it allowed more freedom and there was more stuff to do
For entertainment, visuals and story (it didn't confuse me, unlike AC, which left more questions than it had answered by the end), I would say Call of Duty 4.
