Golden Compass - for those who have seen the movie

I am curious, what did you think of it? We just took my son tonight and I read the book before going. I had an idea of what to expect. The movie was nothing about the book. The movie was more anti-establishment than anti-religion (minus calling the daemons souls, there really was no religion to me in the movie). My poor husband who had not read the book was confused in many places because there was not a lot of explination. He is reading the entire book tonight to help fill in the gaps. Overall, I don't see at all what the fuss was about. Even after reading the book, I didn't see the major issues people were freaking out over. I guess I was just expecting more....
