| i'm wondering how many people on here are in recovery? how many know they have a problem with drugs or alcohol and have done something about it and how many people have someone saying there is a problem and still do not beleive that there is. for the once that know there is a problem and are in recovery what made you realize that there was a problem? what made you get into the NArcotics anonymous program or the Alcoholics anonymous program?? for those of you that don't beleive but have heard people talking about you saying there is a problem what would it take for you to want to quit and better your life there is a better way out there clean and sober than there ever will be drunk or high...... only in AA and NA are we given very special simple steps on how to live life on lifes terms with out alcohol or drugs. i came to AA first because i drank alot and i knew there was alcoholism in my family. | | na | | | | |

| | Hi, Mouse, I was in Denial, but I half to go to meetings ordered from the court, Honestly, I am glad that God, Got my attention. I go to outpatient sessions at the Hospital, 4 times a week, for 2 hours. I didn't want to admit that I am a Alcoholic, but I am, My Mother and Father drinked, but they never got in any trouble, but I do believe my Father died from drinking to much Alcohol, and my sister-in-law use to drink and I believe that is how she died for from drinking all those years. It can and will kill you sooner or later, if you do it to the extreme. Some people drink Socially and some people can't I heard you say you go to AA Meeting, that is a good thing. welcome to the club. I half to get a Sponsor before I finish those sessions. I will be done Mon 14th. going to out Patient, thenI have 8 weeks after care, I will be glad when it is over, I have been drinking for 25 yrs, I think it is time to stop. I notice my Life is a lot better since I have stopped, I wish I would of went to this program when My kids were small, I think they would of turned out to be better kids. My Son Is a alcoholic and don't want to admit it. He has got in a lot of trouble, and I am so worried about him sometimes. He will be 35, I think he needs to get the same treatment I am getting, as a matter a fact, I half to go to Hospital at 1:00pm. for 2 hours I still have 2 AA meeting to make for this week. There is a lot of people in this world they have a problem with drinking thaey just don't want to admit it. That is the first step admitting it. If you are going to drink drink Socialbaly, some people can't though. | | | | | | |

| | Hi mouse, I dont know if you would have or would call me an alcoholic.. but it sure runs in my family and i had a few years straight there that i did nothing else but drink because i was feeling sorry for myself and i didn't know how to fix what was wrong inside my head. . I didn't go to any meetings, or get any help persay. I just took myself away from alcohol for a long time so that i didn't have the urges to drink anymore. I was looking for a way to escape my pain, but drinking did not let me escape.. it rather made the wound worse while i was drinking. I have learned my lesson. So to sum it up, i dont know if i was an alcoholic or just a lost soul, but i am done with it and i haven't even kept track of how long its been since i had a drink, but its been a long time. At least since i drank to get drunk. I have been able to have a drink here and there without any temptation of getting DRUNK. | | | | | | |

| | Alcoholic. Let me start by saying that none of my family drink alcohol. Only me. To think, I'm a girl and I'm gonna be 18 yrs old next month. Meaning, I have been drinking alcohol for the past 5 years of my life. During that span of time, it was just last year (2007-College Sophomore) when I had it. I hit rock bottom. It's like, I do go to school but I don't attend my classes. I am always absent if not late. My grades dropped when I used to have very good grades. I guess its my decisions that haunt me and it's my choice for drinking everyday and waking up the next day with a hang over in going to school. Even now, I'm still having a hard time controlling myself not to hang out at bars after school so that I won't be able to drink anymore and also to spend a lot of money only to release it when I pee (ewww). I do hope this 2008, I'll be able to change. For real. I must save my humiliation when I puke when I get drunk.. I must save my studies to make my parents proud. And of course, save my life. Best of luck! | | | | | | |

| | Yeah. I'm still too young . But I'm already trying my very best to study. I'm really forcing myself to concentrate so that I can be back to my old self where I study hard and always do best in my studies.. but now, I'm having a hard time doing so because of this addiction. I'll try though. Thanks marcia. | | | |

| | if your having a hard time even now with staying away from the booze i would suggest going and talking to your parents tell them you need help and that you feel you have a problem with alcohol. ask them to put you into a treatment centre for a while your studies will be there when you get out and you may even be able to keep up to date with them in the treatment centre. talk to your school about the options of mailing in your assignment. if you continue on the path that your on tho it will become to overwhelming and the temptation to just get drunk and forget it all will be more powerful than you ever thought it could be. | | | |

| | I used to drink A LOT like 10 years ago. I ended up talking to a counselor like twice a week to help me get through getting away from drinking. I didn't do AA though. I found out from my mom only like 5 years ago that alcoholism did run in her family and she never talked about it. Then in 2002 I got really sick with pancreatitis which I still have today because it's chronic. I am not allowed to touch any alcohol because that would set off an attack which is EXTREMELY painful and puts you in the hospital for at least a week. I am glad I talked to and worked with someone way back then because life really is a lot better without alcohol once you get used to it. Hang in there and take it one day at a time my friend. Keep talking to your friends and family for support and let me now if you ever need a little support. I'll lend an ear because I know it's not easy in the beginning. It will get better, I promise. | | | | | | |

| | I am from a Irish family where drink was a way of life. No one thought anything about it. Every Friday, I would run to the local shop which was a couple of miles away, on the weekly "cigarette run", and for this I was always given two bottles of Manns beer, and a pack of Embassy cigarettes. I was ten years old. All of my family are drinkers and so are most of my friends. We were brought up with it. But we were brought up to RESPECT it. I can fully appreciate the misery it causes to many many people. It effects the whole family and friends. It really must be hell on earth for these people. I have seen first hand the effects it can have. I have witnessed some truly awfull alcohol fuelled fights over the years. So Iam not pretending that there is nothing wrong with alcohol, far from it. But like I said, we were brought up to respect alcohol from a very early age. For most, a drink is a most pleasurable thing, but for others it certainly is not. If you go to places like Spain or France, you very often see children having a glass of wine with their parents. It is something they, and generations before them, have always done. They grow up to know the potential dangers of drink, and they for the most part, avoid it. But for many others, it is not so simple. For anyone with a drink problem, I think that to be able to talk about it openly without hiding anything, is definately a positive start. For anyone reading this that has that problem, don't forget, there are people on this site who would only be to willing to lend advice and support, so you are not alone !!!!! | | | |

| | Hi, I had been addicted to Hash and other drugs for more than 7 years. In those 7 years i tried to quit many times but didn't succeeded b'coz of different reasons, But for last 1 year i am away from drugs and living a happy healthy life. I didnt joined any rehab program to quit, what i did was simple but it took a great deal of effort from my side...I left all my friends..well most of them.. all of them who were on drugs...and consequently i am now no longer an addict. | | | | | | |

| | Hi I have been in the methadone program for 4 years now. I am presently weaning of my methadone and its almost over then I plan to go to NA meetings to keep myself focused so not to relapse. I should be ok though, I was prescribed Oyxcontion and percocets for a severe jaw disorder that caused daily severe headaches and reproductive pain issues that lead to hysterectomy in 2001. I was taking anti inflammatorys for 3 years for my pain but a stomach bleed made doctors switch me to the narcotics. When they stopped working I began to self medicate finally full blown addiction. I tryed to stop I got deathly ill each time so I just kept increasing my dosage untill I was eating 20 + pills a day and weighing 95 lbs with my ribs showing. Then a friend who lived upstairs told me about the methadone clinic and how it worked, I was there that afternoon, it saved my life. Its been 4 years I am healthy, the only drug I take is my Methadone and a very low dose now but the hell of addiction is burned into my memory and those people who have never been through addiction be careful because even drugs you are supposed to take can land you in hell if your not careful. | | | | | | |
