I find the world to be a very cynical place. Yes, I must admit I'm a bit cynical as well, but not in a hateful, gloomy way - just in a cautious way. I believe this stems from have so many members of my family in law enforcement and learning so much during college as a Criminal Justice major. So, yes, I need a lot to be able to trust someone. However, I also take note of all the goodness in the world - and there is still so much of it out there. Despite the wars, the lying politicians, the injustice carried out in our nations courts, and the monumental lack of morals and family values, there really is good to be found. I make sure I'm a part of that good, even if only in a small way. For example, I will not stand idly by when I see an elderly person, or a mom with her hands full, trying to put groceries in their car. I go and help. I hold doors open for people whether it's guys or gals. I let others have a closer-to-the-door parking space - I'm able to walk and it does me good anyway. Just these tiny little things, these tiny little moments, help me know that no matter how insignificant, kindness and helping others does make a difference. Even if only in my tiny corner of the world. Each of us must find a balance on how we view the world. See it only as ugly and war-torn and homicidal, and we'll be in a deep depression before dinner. See it only as good and wonderful and kind, and we might as well write naive on our foreheads. Seeing it with a balanced mind will avoid both bad scenarios.
