I have been to Rome. It is a fantastic city, both in modern terms and historically. Along with Athens it is a must see, it is the second half of western civilization.
An evening stroll through the bustling streets, diner al fresco in one of the many piazzas, and pitching a coin or two in the Trevi fountain are staples of a romantic evening in Rome. There is also the Trastevere neighborhood. Walk across the Ponte Garibaldi over the Tiber and then through the winding narrow lanes of this medieval area full of enoteca (wine bars) and little cafes.
I think if you try just a little, you will find Rome very ROME-antic!!!

| ltmoon (812) | 9 months ago | Snoop, no offense taken, my first visit to Rome was with a male traveling companion, an Aussie I met in Greece and happened to bump into on the platform at the Bologna train station. We were both traveling solo and heading south from Bologna for Firenze (Florence to all the English-Only speakers) and then on to Roma. It's nice to have some company when traveling and splitting a room helps stretch the budget. He had been to Rome earlier in his travels and his onward air ticket was out of Rome so he had to return to catch the flight. We spent two days touring Firenze, then he had one day in Rome and he gave me a tour of the highlights. I too came back to Rome a few weeks later after going to Malta with stops coming and going in Sicilia. Fell hard for a lovely woman from Canada and had a wonderful time in those islands before returning to Rome and getting together with a native of Rome I had met months ago in Fiji and he gave me the grand local's tour of Rome! | |

The small stone streets, the Colosseum, the pizza, the people and the Christmas time, oh it was lovely. Actually it was my business trip so did not get time to explore it much, but what ever it is, it is really a memorable moment for me. I wish my boyfriend would have been there with me. It suddenly rained when we were doing sight seeing.
