Jallikattu- A game of bull fight banned by law. | | A few days to pongal festival court has banned this jallikattu. This is shocking news to the southern part of Tamil Nadu in India. After pongal festival this jallikattu competition takes place. Many people are ready with their bulls tamed to bring to the places where normally competition takes place. What is this jallikattu? Why is it banned? Youngsters (male) take part in this jallikattu while bulls keep on running here and there attacking youngsters who try to control them. If anyone removes the towel tied to the bull is the winner and he is presented with cash, gold ornaments. As far as village folks are concerned this is a thrilling sport and it is to sometime loss of life is unavoidable in this sport. The reason given by court for banning this sport that the animals are illtreated. My argument is that we can’t just ignore the fact that animals are ill-treated in this sport and in the meantime we can’t ignore the plight of the youngsters who are anxious to take part in this sport. why not we have a formula and guidelines how to have this sport without being the animals ill-treated come to know the bulls are given alcohol before they join the competition in order to make them stronger and more violent. This sport was done more than 100 years. The official concern must frame guidelines so that without hindrance to anyone to make this sport a success. Will they do? After hearing this verdict the people of southern part intend to hold this sport against the verdict. Why not someone bell the cat in order to minimize the trouble. Related Resource: hearing loss

Many say it is like the bull-fighting of Spain but the major difference is I think in Spanish bull-fighting the matador has to kill the bull in order to be the winner. In jallikattu, there is no killing of the bulls. The participant has to tame a raging bull and take the booty tied to its horns to become the winner. Some animals may get injured as do some men too. But there is no serious intention of ever killing an animal over sport. Also some participants get the bulls drunk in order to make them more ferocious and run faster. This has to be stopped by proper vigilance. But this traditional sport should definitely go on.
