Stains on Aida

January 13, 2008 12:10pm CST
I've had a huge sampler of Henry VIII and his six wives that I've been working on for a long time. It's near completion and I'm really proud of it, however I've noticed that near Anne of Cleves, there is a small brown, dirty mark on the white aida cloth. Does anyone have any recommendations of how I can get this out? I'm really upset as I wanted to finish and frame it, but this mark ruins it. I can't scrub at it because it would damage the fabric and I'm not sure I can wash it very easily as the colours of the silks might run and the gold thread I've used in places is very prone to fraying. I'm really gutted!

You could try washing it in cool water using mild dishwashing liquid. If any colors run, just keep rinsing in cold water until it clears. Don't rub the sampler, just swish it in the soapy water. The gold threads should keep ok using this method.

Thanks for the BR. Did you manage to get the stain out?

A cross-stitching friend helped me and got it out. I was SO happy! Now I can go back to being frustrated over trying to do the French knots!
