cats with worms |
| |
| Hi Both my cats are regularly wormed and given frontline flea spot on. I have never had a problem with fleas but one of my cats seems to have worms. Have treated her a week ago but they still seem to be there. Any advice would be good before spending out on a vet bill to clear. | | | | | |

| | Here in the US, over the counter de-worming medicines are not always safe for pets. Since you tried to get rid of them once yourself and it did not seem to work, I would take your cat to the Vet. When we first got our cats they were de-wormed, and about 3 months later one of them had worms. I brought her to the vet, they weighed her and gave me the pills. I wasn't charged anything for her to get weighted, just the cost of the pills - $10.00. All it takes is one flea jumping on your clothes, being carried inside and the cat eating it to get worms. | | | | | | |

| | Thank you for your response - looks like I'd better dog the cat basket out and make the trip to the vets. She bolts when she sees it so should be an adventure | | | |

| | Over the counter wormers are usually pretty good at getting rid of worms, however, since your cat still seems to have them, I would recommend that you take the cat to the vet. Some types of worms do not respond to OTC wormers, and you'll need to get the cat on a higher powered one that you can get from the vet. I'm not sure how your vet works, but, with some, if you can bring in a stool sample with the worm evidence, they can usually diagnose the type and give the proper de-wormer. This can also save some time, and if the vet doesn't have to swab for a sample, there is usually a lower fee. Hope that helps. | | | | | | |

| | Hi Thanks for your response, definately coming out of her butt bless, but will make to thrip to the vets now and get it sorted. Cost not as important as her health but thought people might have an over counter one that they had used which worked. | | | |

| | Fleas can come in with you when you go from outside to inside. They don't have to be on a cat that goes out and stays in. Every single one of my cats are all inside cats, but my 3 labs go outside to play and pee/poo and they bring in fleas. You can get Frontline off eBay very cheaply. I buy the big dog frontline for dogs 55+ lbs and up and then divide that out into 8 equal doses for my cats. You can find one tube of the big dog Frontline for about $15 on eBay which lasts you 8 treatments. It's way cheaper than buying the individual pipettes from your vet or off eBay. You just dump the fluid into the little glass jar they send and draw it out with a syringe with no needle. It's easier to apply that way anyway. | | | |

| | you will probably have to take to a vet... we had a cat many years ago that despite any treatment continuously got them...she lived with them for over 10 years before getting hit by a car...i am not sure what was wrong with her...kept trying this treatment that treatment, the vet was stumped too... | | | | | | |

| | So sorry to hear that she got runover, unfortunately with so much traffic that is always a risk with them. My other cat was lucky when he got hit he survived but looks unusual now as he unfortunately lost his tail, such a handsome boy though. Have taken Sybil to vets now and she seems more comfortable and yesterday didn't detect any worms so lets hope that is the last of it. Due another top up in 3 months. Many thanks for responding :) | | | |
