Do you think Comic books are art? Recently I've heard a lot about this subject and, being a comic book collector as well as an amateur artist myself, I would like to know what other people think on this subject. I have my opinion on the matter but I will leave it at home and see what you say. Do modern works of Comic compare to traditional works of art?

According to www.dictionary.com, art is the quality, production, expression, or realm according to aesthetic principles of what is beautiful, appealing, of more than ordinary significance. I don't collect comic books but I appreciate the writer's and artist's style. After reading the story, I scan the comic book once again to look at the drawings (pictures). I would like to see more original ones, original works... what do u mean by modern works? the ones edited in photoshop? or anything that uses computers?

I mean modern as in the more current means of production, internet comics, mass produced paperback comics, and Manga. Even though on a broad description comics could be considered an art form, a lot of people do not because comics are associated with children and apparently some people think that children cannot really appreciate art. Just like many adults consider cartoons a child's domain although a lot of the humor I find is more suited for adults.

I see. But I think children are the best judges. Children are more likely to appreciate those kind of things because they tend to be engrossed/involved in what they're doing. I still enjoy comics how ever they are printed; yet I still value the people behind them.

Art is art is art. Yes in there own way comic books are art. You still have to draw them and it's the artists vision of what the character looks like. LOL! so yes it's a work of art.

I think that comic books are most definatly art. The work and effort that goes into creating the stories are more something that is rewarding at the end when completed. I think that modern works of art do not compare to comic book art.
