Beside my floats a stainless steel bowl of about 8 inch diameter

And it is full of cherries, ripe dark cherries, floating in the bowl in the warm water of the bath next to me. Now these cherries were not only half price but are truly a wonderful to behold. They are dark red like a woman's lips and pressed against mine they have a similar texture. A faint essence of cherry is already discernible on my lips. With my incisors I take a slice from the cherry, it bleeds darkly sweet juice into my mouth, encouraging me to ingest the rest of the fruit. I spit the stone into a cup and with my tongue manoeuvre part of the cherry into the side of my mouth between my teeth and cheek, here it tastes sugar sweet, savouring the contrast between the two flavours I bit off part and take it into the back of my mouth, here the taste is what I would normally think of as cherry. Ah, happiness in life is learning to take pleasure in small things, like eating cherries in the bath. Do you carefully taste and savour life's small pleasures? all the best urban

I did not know you were such an accomplished poet Urban. Very nice! All I have left is life's small pleasures so I must treasure each and every one of them. Shalom

Prose is poetry, hmmm, which sort of makes one term or the other redundant, doesn't it? If there is no difference we might as well call them the same, because not all that is called poetry rhymes does it. When I think of Poetry I generally think it has rhythm or cadence and that each word is chosen with particular care. In this latter sense, poetry has a lot in common with philosophy. all the best urban

Oh Gosh Urban! You have taken my mind for a walk in the garden full of cherries, I wish I could read this article with my eye closed! Thanks for giving me this little pleasure. Yes, I take pleasure in small things just as I have done. I take pleasure even when am a sleep. Holding tight your pillow and assume you are flying to somewhere unknown.

Oh yes, when I lay me down to sleep I often imagine I am on a small yacht floating in a sea of fluid blue, alone and unhomed. Sometimes I can even feel the movement of the craft, sinuous as a snake. Or, on some spacecraft hurtling through the vast voids of a black and empty sky. In fact I have a whole story I told myself over a long time about life on such a vessel. all the best urban

Wow! Those are what we call little pleasures in life, even when showering you close your eyes and feel the water brush through your skin from head to toe and enjoy the feeling. Can you share with me that story?

that was rather beautiful - I never thought of cherries as being so sensuous before. I think it is neat how you are patient enough in eating the fruit to discover its varying properties.
