Gold Plated Ornaments |
| |
| Have you ever worn gold plated jewellery? Do you own any and do you like it? I know gold plated jewellery has its own uses. Its convenient for daily use and is cheap too, so no major heart-break if it gets lost or stolen. But I do not like gold-plated ornaments. I feel that wearing one is like projecting a false image of something to the world, something that I am actually not. Suppose I am wearing a very expensive gold plated ornament to a party. People will think that I am affluent enough to be able to afford it while in reality the truth is far from it. I feel very phoney wearing plated stuff. What about you? | | | | | |

| | I have a gold plated charm bracelet my son bought for my birthday when he was 7 years old. It's my absolute favorite piece of jewelry besides my wedding ring. Those are the 2 things I wear everyday. I have other gold plated jewelry that I like and wear sometimes. I have no problem wearing it and if someone asks, I'm more than happy to tell them it's only an inexpensive replica. Some imitation jewelry made nowadays is very good quality and very inexpensive. Maybe it's a cultural difference, but I'm not too concerned with what others think. I don't think anyone should judge someone by how they view their jewelry. I don't think having something that looks nice and appears to be more expensive than it actually is makes you phoney. Now if you lied about it, which you wouldn't, that would be phoney.:)

| | thanks so much for your response. Yes every trinket that our children gift us are our most precious possessions. I have a hair-clip from my son which I use regularly. Yes, it’s a big cultural difference you know. We indians are very much hooked to our jewelleries and on any party, you will see women come laden with gold. there is no way to know how much of it is genuine but you should see the way they flaunt it. and just because i dislike wearing plated stuff and i feel its unsafe to wear genuine gold, i usually go with minimum jewellery on me. and the looks that i get! | | | |

| | Sad to say I can't wear gold plated, my skin is too acidic. They loose it's color in just a short while. So I just wear semiprecious stones if not the real ones. | | | | | | |

| | Same as you, I don't like wearing plated jewellery. In fact I dont have any because of the same reasons you gave above. If you were plated ornaments to a party where most people know you and your financial ability they might make wrong conclusions like, hey i think she is pulling a doze with a rich old man or I think she stole it from somewhere" such like comments can taint your name. I prefer those plastic and colourful ornaments to match with the clothes I wear to coated ones. Thanks for bringing this up. | | | | | | |

| | yeah, it seems both of us have a lot in common. Even I used to wear loads of the plastic and semi-precious types in my adoloscence and early youth. I used to colour-coordinate a lot of funky stuff with my clothes. However, at 35 these just doesn’t look good on me anymore. so i am back to wearing plain Gold Rings and little else. | | | |

| | Yes, for me at 25 I still fancy them. I like the colour co-ordination and they are very cheap, you can get a bungle for less than a dollar and with 3 dollars you are fully dressed with bungles and necklases. For me the only thing I have which is pure gold is my engagement ring. I cannot afford many gold jewellery. | | | |

| | i don't own any gold-plated ornaments or accessories. i don't like glittering gold accessories. but i do have a gold ring and Gold Earrings and both are real. they were given to me by my mother. and they don't really glitter. i wear the ring everyday and i only take it off when i'm taking a bath. i seldom wear the gold earrings. except from these two, all my accessories are silver. from earrings to bracelets to watches. and even necklace. everything is silver. i prefer it than gold. probably because of the same thing that you said. people will think i'm rich when in fact i am not. ans somehow, i view gold as color for old people. ^__^;; because the people that i usually see wearing gold are old.
