What is your opinion of Mastercard taking over from regular store credit cards

Is it a good idea or one that will lead more people into debt? I had my Zellers Credit card changed to an HBC Master Card (I live in Canada) because I always paid my credit card before the interest was due, and I have noticed that other department stores have followed suit, so now we have a Master Card for Canadian Tire for the guys out there, a Master Card for Staples -for the computer enthusists and office suppliers, a Master Card for Sears, and even one for those who frequent the 7/11. Now to me, who shop at Future Shop and Best Buy just as frequently as Staples, would not an Office and Computer supply type of Mastercard be just as good as a Hardware and Car stuff Mastercard be as good for the guys?
So what is the point of them changing to separate Mastercards. Will there also be the time when we get a Safeway Mastercard as well?

It is the confusing and the running around. At least with the bank card, I just had to go to the bank to pay it or transfer the money from my checking account. Now I will have to get my HBC credit card joined with my savings account or go down to Zellers when I have to pay it. All that work.

I am the type of person who when I have change in my purse are more apt to spend it. Besides I have bad wrists and it is hard for me to write out a check each time. I also like to keep records, and find seeing the charge on my statement -that I usually get after I paid for the charge anyway, makes it easier for me.

So far this has not happened here in Texas but they might follow suit before long i am not sure.I have several credit cards for stores and so far they have remained store cards..if they change i will just have to be very careful because i pay my bill each month...

That is what I intend to do. I may not get a Sears Master Card because we usually buy big purchases there, but I do a few small ones at Staples and might get their card if I qualify. We are on pension.
