What kind of quilt are you making?  email this discussion to a friend?

Anyone make any new quilts lately?

I'm working on finishing a baby quilt for my brand new nephew. My SIL has his room decorated with baby animals, so I found some adorable material with all kinds of baby animals on it. I found accent colors in blue, brown and yellow. It is turning out to be so cute!

My next project will be for my youngest dd. She wants a new quilt for her bedroom in orange, teal and yellow! It may not sound like the best colors to work together, but I bought a couple jelly rolls in those colors and they look great together! Now I just have to have her pick out what she wants it to look like!

What are you working on?

Afraid I haven't quilted in years but keep saying I'm going to get back into it.

I'm crochetting mostly now and am currently working on a special order baby afghan - purples & gray with butterflies.

I made several crocheted afghans years ago, but haven't done much crocheting in years! So we're the opposite!

Purples and grays sound great together. I want to make a quilt for my SIL (the mother of the new baby) that looks like butterflies. I bought all the material, but her birthday isn't till October, so I have a while for that one! It will have all batik material that looks like stained glass, and then I'll do a black trim around each block. I have a beautiful pattern for paper piecing butterflies. I know she'll love it!

Have fun with the baby afghan!

Sounds a lot like my crocheted blanket. 2 shades of purple in squares, the lighter purple squares all have a butterfly crocheted right into the square, each square is framed in grey then a grey border around all. It looks like the squares are in fancy picture frames because I used a different stitch for that.

I've now finished that but turned right around and got order for 2 sets (blanket and pillow) but both are all white with white satin trim. This same lady has purchased 10 or so sets from me over the last year.

Yep, you're right! I am always working on one for someone! I just find it very relaxing and rewarding. Sometimes, I'll see a pattern and immediately I think of someone that I'd like to make a quilt for!

I went to a Joannes when I was in the city a couple of days ago - we only gt there about once a year - they had the most luscious colors available in the Orange section - it was so vibrant and alive.

I am really in awe of people who do quilting. I wish I had had someone close to me to teach me and guide me to doing it, I would like my daughter, also, to learn the art. What is a jelly roll?

myLot reputation of 99/100. creematee (1637)   ranked 1 out of 75 in quilting  5 years ago

Hi Meodestah...
To answer your question, a jelly roll is a bunch of fabrics cut in 2 inch lengths x the width of the fabric. I believe there are 30-50 strips in a jelly roll. The name is for how they are sold. All rolled up like it's namesake. It looks like a cinnamon roll, or an old fashioned lollypop when they are done.

Yep, she's right! It looks like a jelly roll... I love them cause then I don't have to cut them as much! lol! I even purchased a couple of books with patterns especially for jelly rolls...

Sounds like you've been busy! :) I have fabrics picked out to make a garden maze quilt for our bed. The focal fabric is a pretty orange, red and yellow leaf pattern. The "paths" are a yellow and orange to match. I'm really excited about it, but still, not excited enough to start cutting.

I also have a lonestar cut out made out of a cute print I found. It's a kalediscope of little animals marching along. I really do need to finish this one up. I don't know what I'll do with it when I'm done, but it will be a fun experience.

I just checked out the garden maze pattern and it's really nice! That's not one I had seen before. Orange, yellow and red would make a nice quilt!

Well, I just finished a set of pot holders, and now I'm finishing the quilting on my zoo quilt. Then I have another quilt top ready to quilt, but I need to figure out the backing first. LOL

I want to start a new quilt, but I told myself I need to finish at least 2 already started quilts before I can start a new one. ;O)

myLot reputation of 99/100. creematee (1637)   ranked 1 out of 75 in quilting  5 years ago

That's a great idea... finish what you started. I have always wondered why my UFO pile is bigger than my finished pile. LOL! :)

I am just beginning on this "making a quilt" adventure! I have one big baby quilt all sewn, except I want to add more to the border and have to buy some tan material, so that one is on hold, but almost finished. This one is a nine patch, mainly navy, tan and a plaid of black, blue and tan. It's my favorite so far.

I've got another big baby quilt started that is a nine patch, mainly white, mauve and a plaid of gray, mauve and white. I know white is not the best choice for a baby blanket, but that's how it is.

These two quilts I will for sure take them to my MOPS group to be tied and then we will donate them to a shelter in our area.

I just started another quilt the block is some sort of a start in the middle and a log cabin around the outside. Someday I'd like to make it a red, white and blue quilt as in the book. I'm making my quilt as purples, dark greens, and rose print with these colors and the background is white. I think it will be very pretty when it's done.

I'm learning a bunch with this one also, but that's another post. Over all I'm having a good time with it.
