My friend was rear ended last week by a man named Bob. My friend called Bobs insurance company and they said Bob has not called in claim yet and they cant reach Bob. My friend even has a police report. Is there some law that gives a time limit on when insurance companies have to pay the claim? They are giving my friend the runaround.
What he should do is call his own insurance company and file a claim through them. If he has the correct coverage they will pay the claim and collect from Bob's insurance company. If he doesn't, he still needs to file a claim as Bob's insurance company will be calling your friends company to verify that he has insurance and that a claim was made.
If my friend calls his insurance company will that make his rates increase? Thats what I told my friend, to call his insurance and make them chase Bob. I will tell him again if his rates are not affected, thanks
Since he was rear ended - and therefore not his fault - it should not. Either way between the police report and the other insurance company they are going to find out about it.
