As I've been watching my favorite noontime show, I was again alighted by an idea that's been probably hidden on the back of my mind and prompted me to ask you guys this question. As the host tries to read the very same question I'm gonna ask you, a coffee shop that has no service crew nor cashier manning it. All you need to do is leave the money inside a box or jar, then make yourself your own coffee and enjoy sipping it's taste..
Though I have heard of this long ago, I forgot the place and that shop as well. They call it as the, Honesty Coffee Shop. it is located in the northern part of the Philippines, which is in the island of Batanes.
For all of you that still have no idea, this is the only place where you can enjoy peace safety and relaxation. It is smoke-free, pollution-free, crime-free and has a very friendly community. Just like others, they are also hospitable, welcoming and HONEST in more ways than one!;)
Do check out this link and I hope that you do read the whole article, I'm sure you'll learn more from it than this post of mine!=)LoL

So, are there place like this that exists in your side of town?.. =)

I went to New Zealand some years ago and they had honesty fruit stalls out the front of some country properties, you just go up to a little wooded stall take the fruit you want and leave the money, and in the city they also had newpaper stalls where you just take a newspaper and leave the money...I was told by someone that lives there that the owners of the stalls are never short in fact sometimes they have more money left there than what there should have been. Honest people in New Zealand....

I'd love it to be different, but there's no way that something so idyllic would happen here. I'm in the American midwest, in St. Louis actually, and there's not a chance in the world for that to happen. It's a lovely thought, though. and I'd love to go to Batanes. Sounds like heaven.

Hello Raijin, as much as I love my home town and its sleepy slow ways, I do not think this place exists. You can however find safe peaceful places for solitude in the country side and along the river. But anytime you must interact with people at one point or another there is going to be conflict. Its sad. Its wonderful to know that there is a place such as you describe.

That's what we also have here in my place, sometimes you cannot just go to a specific place since you have to be careful from the kind of people that lives there.
This place is indeed the rarest of all, where I believe only a few good people deserves to be at!;)

I don't know of anyplace here in the states. To me it is refreshing to see that there are places that believe in the honesty of people. To many times people are clumped into a catagory and there is left no room for someone being different. It is also nice that the attention is given to this. The news consists of on many occasions the bad things that happen. I like to hear things like you posted here. A wonderful post that made me smile.

I don't think they have it here where I live but I heard that there were a few places in New Zealand that had fruit stalls like this. They even had a few in the villages where I lived in Samoa - mainly fruit and vege stalls.

Just goes to show you that there are still some points of light left in the world. I don't know of anyplace like that here in the United States, nor do I think it would be in business very long if they tried it unfortunately.
I would very much love to come and visit this little coffee shop, although I would have to run outside at some point and take a smoke lol!!!

i have heard of it and i have seen it in one of the tv magazine programs here in the philippines.yes, that is cool! too bad it won't work in the city or even in the provinces since life is becoming too "expensive" , people will take advantage of the "honesty", though it is nice to see if there are places and people doing it.

That's an awesome idea! I think it's great that such a thing can exist.
Sadly, it wouldn't work where I live. Not only would people not pay or take the money that were there before them, I would guess it wouldn't take long at all before drunken college students started hanging out there to party, or destroyed things. :(

That's the down-part of it, even if we wanted to have something like that in our own place, we can't because of some unruly individuals.
The place is still far from where I am, maybe an hour or less ride from a plane. I do wish it was near here in my town, so I can enjoy savoring the feeling of being free and honest..=)

i have heard about that place. drinking coffee must be totally serene there. i would be probably addicted to coffee if there's something like that in our town. my coffee addict friends would love that place! they would definitely look more like coffee than ever. ^__^;;
Batanes really sounds so beautiful. it became popular again because of Ken Zhu and Iza Calzado's movie di ba?? did you watch that film bok? i didn't. i like ken Zhu but i don't like the story. my mother wants to visit Batanes just because of that movie! imagine that. but they say, its a little dangerous because you'd be encountering a lot of big waves and all that along the way. and there's no air travel available right?? sayang. it seems like a very nice place to have a vacation.

Honestly, our high school valedictorian was the one's who directed their movie. I always wanted to see it, well maybe just wished to, but I the idea didn't pushed through.
There are already planes flying over there, Batanes is not that poor as a province..

DEFINITELY A BIG NO NO! ! !
Especially if you're in the Metro Manila area. People in the urban areas are honest but when it comes to MONEY, don't think so. With hard times always, it's a question of survival.
How I wish there's still such a place here in Metro Manila.
