CSI Miami - How many times are they going to shoot Eric?

Actually I'm a David Caruso fan and I do not worry about Eric. I did like that part where the Internal Revenue was investigating the characters getting too romantically involved. I do have a theory that perhaps he planned to leave the show, and that is when he got shot the first time, the network persuaded him to come back, and then he decided to leave again, got the writers to write someone shooting him, and well the network got him to return.
Maybe someone could stab him, his car get into an accident, he might get a brain anorism, etc.
