How did one survive??? | | | | I would like to share with you all a forward that i received today: How did one survive? How did one survive growing up in the 70's, 80's and 90's? We had no seatbelts, no airbags, and sitting in a car was a treat... our baby prams had the most gorgeous lead-based colours... No such thing as tamper proof bottle tops Opening kitchen cupboards were a breeze as safety locks were unheard of.. Cycling was like a breath of fresh air..No safety helmets, knee pads, or elbow pads, with plenty of cardboard between spokes to make it sound like a motorbike... When thirsty, we only drank tap water, bottled water was still a mystery.. We kept busy collecting bits and pieces so we could build all sorts of things..and we were fearless on our bikes even when the brakes failed going downhill.... We were showing off how tough we are, by how high we could climb trees and then jumping down.. it was great fun.. We could stay out to play for hours, as long as we got back before dark, in time for dinner.. We walked to school or sometimes we even rode our bikes. We had no mobile phones, but we always managed to find each other. How?? no one knows. We lost teeth, broke arms and legs, we got cuts and bruises and bloody noses...nobody complained as we had so much fun, it wasn't anybody's fault, only ours.. We ate everything in sight.. cakes, bread, chocolate, icecream, sweet sugary drinks, yet we stayed skinny by fooling around. And if one of us were lucky to find a 1 litre coco cola bottle, we all had a swag from it and guess what? nobody picked up any germs... We did not have playstations, mp3, Nintendo's, Ipods, video games, 109 cable tv channels, dvd's, home theatres, mobile phones, home computers, laptops, chat rooms, internet, etc.. but we had REAL FRIENDS!!! We called on friends to come out and play, never rang the door bell.. just went around the back. We loved being let loose in the big bad world without body guards.. We played with sticks and stones, played cowboys and indians, doctors and nurses, hide and seek and soccer games again and again.. When we failed our exams we were given a second chance by simply repeating the same grade...without visiting psychiatrists, psychologists or counsellors.. such were the days... We had freedom, success, disappointments, and responsibilities... most of all, we learned to respect others.. If you are from such a generation, may be this would bring a smile on to your face, just by remembering those good ol'days.. I hope it took you down memory lane... | | | | | | | | | | New: Cupboards up to -57% Top Cupboards at bargain prices: Compare offers and save up to 57%! www.news72.com/Cupboards

| | Oh I received a similar email like this. Yes its good to reminisce those old times. We lived as carefree yet no hassles. The games we play before are far too different from the games the youth are playing today. Advancement in technology may have given us some comfort, but sometimes it deprives us of some things too. | | | | | | | pree70 (251)

| | Very true... I just can't help lamenting the fact that all aspects of the carefree life we led as children will no longer be accessable to our kids. Life has improved a lot from earlier days undoubtedly, but some things were best left untouched! Anyway, i guess, we all learn to swim with the current.. | | | | | | | New: Cupboards up to -57% Top Cupboards at bargain prices: Compare offers and save up to 57%! www.news72.com/Cupboards | add comment | | | |

| | I have often sat and thought about this myself. I remember when I was a kid growing up in the 80's, our parents had to threaten to get a belt to get us to come inside at night. Today, you almost have to lock the doors to keep kids outside. We weren't spoiled little brats like kids are today. We knew what it was like to get whippings, and knew what it was like NOT to get everything we want. As you stated, we had REAL friends, so we didn't always feel like the world was pissed off at us, and we didn't take guns to school and kill our classmates. We drank from the tap or the garden hose, and we got out on our bikes every day no matter how hot or cold it was. We wrecked our bikes and got cuts and scrapes. Our bodies built up immunities to germs and infections, and the fact that we were out riding bikes or running or playing baseball or basketball every day meant that we could eat whatever we wanted and not get fat. Kids today are exactly the opposite. They sit around all day playing videos or being on myspace, and eat like horses (all the junk food they can cram in). They don't get the exercise that was part of our everyday lives (we didn't even realize that we were exercising because we were always having fun doing it), and they dont get all the cuts and stuff that we had to endure because it is kind-of hard to cut yourself on a keyboard or game controller...SO, what you get today are a bunch of fat kids who get sick at the slightest change in temperature or have to go to the hospital for antibiotics and treatment for the smallest injuries. If they lived the way we lived when we were kids, the world would be a better place. | | | | | | | pree70 (251)

| | I can see that you really miss those days! It is a sad fact, but as the world progresses, there are a whole lot of unwanted things that come along with it. I guess children are the first to be affected. Can't really blame them for this is something which we adults have created. I just hope things get better soon. lol | | | | dangaroo (189)

| | Very true indeed, though it's a very small portion of the world you are talking about that is like that. USA and I suppose Canada (never been there but it's more or less the same lol), a lot of Europe and possibly Japan. | | | | | | | Super cheap Cupboards Buy discount Cupboards & save now! | | Hi friend I am amazed to see this post , you have certainly typed it out. Thanks for sharing here. My son was telling about some thing similar. Yes friend it is good to reminisce those old times. The games I played fifty years back is definitely too different from the games my grand son is playing today. DR.B.SARAF Ph.D. | | | | | | | pree70 (251)

| | Nope never received an email such as this. I have however replied to someone else with a similar post like this. It's from a country song that I love! There are just added words to the song. But good post. | | | | | | | | | | good old days good old days Deals Find Low Prices & Save up to 30% mySimon.com/Low_Prices | add comment | | | |
