There's a great new site on the web: www.more4kids.com.
Check it out if you're home schooling your kids or are thinking of it. It's based in Great Britain.

Do you think this would be a good idea for Bong, you gave me good advice about his temper tantrums? He has done reception and year 1. His reading is really good and he can count to 20., he can hardly write at all although sometimes he can copy but a lot of letters get confused or backwards. He can't do sums or count backwards yet. They have to do joined up riting this next year and I'm a bit concerned tht he's going to be left behind. What about the social side of school he doesn't have many friends?

Dear Rainbow,
Bong sounds like he is quite high functioning. That's great! With a good education, he should do well in life. Some autistic children never learn to speak, much less read like Bong. It's common for all children up to age 7 to reverse letters and numbers and even whole words sometimes. Writing is often difficult for young boys. Give him some clay to play with to help develop his small muscles in his hands. Also, stringing beads, coloring, playing with marbles will help. It sounds like you're in Great Britain? I'm in the U.S., so I'm not so familiar with your school system. I think Bong should go to school for a couple of reasons. 1. You need a break and some time to spend with your younger child.
2. Bong needs the expertise of specialized teachers because of his autism and ADHD. Keep in close contact with the school and take advantage of everything they can offer him.
You can still work with him at home like a homeschooling parent. Keep the sessions short (5-15 minutes) and use lots of praise and small rewards like little toy cars and inexpensive fun things he likes. One more reason for him to go to school is to be around other kids. Autistic children sometimes withdraw into themselves. He'll be less likely to do that at school. If the school recommends a special class or school, consider it very seriously. Incredible progress is made by kids being taught by specialist teachers.

wow, thats fantastic, someone actually thinks he's doing ok! I get so much negative stuff and he can be a little monster, often without a run up. Your ideas to strengthen his hands are really clever. I will make salt dough this afternoon. You must have been one of those teachers the kids remember forever! Thank you so very much for your honest replies and help. I hope you have a lovely day, it's sunny here in England today, I hop it's nice in the US too.
Thank you again
