| remote access software  | | | |  Can anyone help me with information on remote access software? I am going back to work after 3 1/2 years, but they are willing to let me work from home. If I had remote access to their pc, it would make my job much easier. I just don't know anything about it, and I'm not really sure where to start. Does anyone have any suggestions of good software packages - reasonably priced? Do I need to have the same accounting software installed on my computer that they use, or do I run completely off their software? Any information would be greatly appreciated!!

| |  I personally use LogMeIn because there is a free version. There are some great versions such as Proffesional and IT which have way more functionality. Even with the free version, I can change the client's screen resolution, color palette, zoom, etc as well have an encrypted remote connection and all the usual functions.

| |  I guess it depends on what your connection speeds are and what type of firewall is between you.
For remote access you can use windows(XP) rdp, which can be found under accessories, communication, remote desktop connection. I have used it to connect to a business and it gives you complete control of the workstation and programs. RDP uses port 3389.
There is also VNC, which is free.

| |  Just like justabloke, the only remote access I've only had to use the remote desktop connection that he mentioned, and it works swimmingly. I haven't had much of a need for it aside from a few simple projects that have been completed for quite some time now, so I'm not much help.
(There was never any need for something more.)
If you're using a PC running XP, I'd definitely suggest just using what it came with rather than trying to invest or seek out some alternative program. (Unless you find out that there's a problem, of course.)
