Best Programming Language

No such thing as the "best programming language".

You have some that don't suck.

You have some that are better at task X than many other languages.


I use Java a lot at the moment for developing back-end systems. The language is nothing special, but the API and 3rd party support is great. Ant, Guice, Spring, Eclipses, Clover etc all make me more productive.

But when I have a quick and basic task that needs to be done/now/ I use bash, sed and awk. Sure I should maybe learn Perl or Python, but when the requests come in I don't think "now would be a great time to learn a new language" I think "You want this in 30 minutes!?"

I'm going to start work on a new desktop application soon. Given that I work in a Windows-only environment the choice is obvious - C#. Despite me having limited XP with the language, I know that much of what I have learnt before will be directly transferable to this new language. As an added bonus many of the great tools for Java have C# equivalents.

If I was you and would forget about the concept of "best programming language" and learn the basics of as many as you can.

i think c# with ASP.net is the best one for creating a website . because it is upto the standards of a good programming .

I have been using C++ in my work and found C++ to be a powerful and flexible programming language but although it is prone to memory leaks and memory corruptions if you are not careful.

The programming language depends on the task. Anything that needs a graphical user interface I would recommend C# or VB.NET mainly because of Visual Studio's powerful integrated development environment. If not on a windows platform and needing a GUI I would recommend Java. If it's on a Unix based system and a console appliation I would recommend c++, Java, or Python. I prefer ASP.NET for websites with a C# or VB.NET code behind.

All cool programs are written on these languages, and so are games.

There are so many languages and its really difficult to say which one is the best. May be it depends more on individual. I find Java better since I have worked with it more. But others may find some other language better. I have not worked with .Net technology but many people recommend it to be good. But one has to learn it and gain experience. With so many languages and technologies in the market, it becomes difficult to master all of them. So usually it happens that when one get a job and has to work on a particlular technologie, he find it the best, since he gets used to it and his experience gives him the necessary confidence.

Well I do web designing as a "hobby" and I'd have to say I prefer php, javascript and perl.
