I just got done watching a whole afternoon of the classic movies. These were movies I had seen in my younger days and still enjoy watching them. They had on The Absentminded Professor with Fred McMurray, Bedknobs and Broomsticks with Angela Lansbury, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, War Games, Stand By Me, and Dead Poets Society. All good old movies. Although I couldn't quite get into the Dead Poets Society. It has Robbin Williams in it and this is the first movie that I watched that I didn't care for him in it. I don't know why but I just didn't. I had a completely enjoyable afternoon with the television of TCM and a bowl of popcorn by my side. Do you still enjoy watching the old movies? I do very much.

I am a serious fan of the channel myself, but for a while now, I have been without cable tv. I plan to renew it once I pay the bill up. I love old movies and lately, I have been gettng my personal collection going as well. Dead Poets Society was a bit strange for me. The young guy who wanted to be a writer but his dad was footing the bill and wanted more for him struck me through the whole movie. Yes, I am lover of classic movies.

I love classic movies. I think the actors are so great. That channel is one I like to go to quite often.

I would've enjoyed the first 4 movies, I've seen them and enjoyed them. But I hardly consider Dead Poet Society a "classic" movie... yet.

I do know that Robin williams was playing against "type" here & many didn't enjoy his performance. I viewed it as proving that he was more than just a "funny face" (making fun of those movies where the women proved they could last past the dewy starlet stage....)

I can't say that I loved the movie, because I hated the whole thing, I hate those kinds of movies, but I thought Williams did a good job with what he had.

I didn't care for Dead Poets Society. It was a part I wasn't used to seeing him in. I have seen him in movies that he plays the comedian part. So that may be why I didn't care for the part he played in this movie. I just recently watched another movie that he played a serious part in and I really loved it. The name of the movie was "What Dreams May Come" with Robbins Williams and Annabella Sciorra in it. There was a movie I really loved. There were only the three main people as the movie progressed. It started out as they got married and had four kids. The kids were killed in a car crash and the movie progresses from there. The third person was a person who had been killed and he was guiding Robbin Williams through heaven as after four years he had been killed also. It is a excellent movie and I liked it very much.

I agree that What Dreams May Come was a much better movie. I think Dead Poets would've been bad, and the role would've sucked with whoever played it...

I HATE "coming of age" movies.

That is a good way to spend the day. Watching the classics and for me I can remember when I was young and when they first came out.

I think this month is also 31 Days of Oscar on Turner Classic Movies, showing 31 classic Oscar winners in some category.
I used to really like the old Hitchcock movies, especially North by Northwest with Cary Grant. I thought Cary Grant was the last of the big time stars.
North by Northwest was a classic thriller and I loved the film until I watched it a couple years ago and some things hit me.
One... in this scene there is gunfire....GUNFIRE!... the two Soviet spies TRAINED WITH GUNS... come out of the their room and go...what was that?... and the woman goes...Oh, just a noise. They say...okay... now don't you try to escape...or we'll kill you.
And they left!
Then... at the end... the woman shoots Cary Grant and he falls to the ground dead in front of the Russian spies.
Thirty seconds later an ambulance pulls up, the EMT gets out, touches Cary Grant in the neck and goes... yep he's dead. They put him on a stretcher, load him up and leave!
The Russian spies just stand there.
They don't check Cary for any blood. They don't try to confirm his pulse.
They don't do anything.
Of course, Cary Grant sits up in back after the ambulance pulls away.
It was all a ruse.
Russian spies must have been complete idiots back then.
I didn't like Bedknobs. I thought it was long and a Mary Poppins ripoff. I'm very partial to Mary Poppins so I'm not objective on that.
I guess my favorite classic movies are the original Frankenstein and Dracula movies made back in 1931. They were the first talkies and infinitely better than any of the remakes they've tried to make since.

Damn...I forgot to add that I watched Cool Hand Luke last night.
One of my all-time favorites.
I took a film class in college and we studied that movie for more than a month.
The movie has a lot of Jesus symbolism in it... that Paul Newman is Jesus to these guys and you see a lot of that in the film. Lots of crosses. Lots of shots of Newman positioned like he is nailed to a cross...like right after eating the 50 hardboiled eggs and he's laid out on a table.
Still... it's a great movie.
What we have here... is a failure to communicate...favorite movie line.

I liked Cool Hand Luke also. Paul Newman was another of my favorite classic movie actors. He was really good and I always enjoyed any of the movies he was in. I like to watch the original Frankenstein and Dracula movies also. I loved the Mary Poppins movie and still today I love to watch classic films. I think they are great. And I must say put a John Wayne movie on and I am glued to the television.

I have to say your granddaughters are very beautiful girls. I can imagine what they are going to look like when they are older. They will be very beautiful women. The smile on their faces just light up their eyes. This is one of the channels I like to watch and if you are into classic movies I think you would enjoy them to. It is a shame you don't get this channel because there are some good movies on there. One of the actors that have been my all time favorite and still is although he has passed away is John Wayne. I still love movies that he has acted in. He is one of those that in my book is on the top of my list as a great actor.

We had that channel for a while during one of those free previews from the satellite company and I loved it. My mom has always been a fan of older movies so we were raised on them. I miss the channel alot since we don't have it anymore. I think I'll look into subscribing to it!

What's your favorite old movie? Movie star? Is it Lucielle Ball? Spencer Tracy?

I love old movies and the stars that were the headliners then. I am not a huge fan of the newest stuff for the most part. I have always watched the "oldies" since I was little. I really love almost...

Has anyone seen the 1949 version of "The Secret Garden"?

I recently saw the original "Secret Garden" with Margaret O'Brien and Dean Stockwell. They were terrific child actors. I loved the scene when they literally screamed back and forth at each other....

OMG! I remember this movie as a kid and it was a tear jerker then, but I thought that because I had seen it many times before that I would be in the clear. No way! I was crying, my son, and my hubby....
