Jack McEvoy is a crime reporter working for the Rocky Mountain News. His only brother is a homicide detective, that committed suicide, because of depression from a traumatizing case. In hot pursuit of the truth, relating to his brother's death, Jack becomes involved in a stellar pursuit of a killer called "The Poet".

A killer of detectives, who's calling card is leaving lines from Edgar Allen Poe poems, at crime scenes.

"The Poet" is a fantastic, thrilling, suspenseful, crime fiction novel. Contains a strong leading man and a strong leading woman, that is sexy also. The story and narration, are riveting and tenacious. The prose, is filled with depth and resonates with dark despondency.

Michael Connelly infused "The Poet" with masterful substance. With great ambition, he created characters and plot points, that cement you, to your seat. It's filled with action but does not forget the impact and grip, of emotions.

The enemy of the story is cleverly created. He is a killer that evokes evil and a nemesis whose actions grip and fill you, with great anticipation of his ultimate demise.

Did you enjoy Michael Connelly's The Poet?

Actually, I did enjoy this book. It's been quite some time since I read that one though. I believe the first book of Connelly's that I read was Angel's Flight, and I was hooked on his writing then.

Since I read around 40-50 novels a year, I try to balance my list to my favorite authors, adding in the newest releases as they come out.

Connelly is at the top of my favorites list with Kellerman, Patterson, Grafton, Evanovich, and Coulter.

If you haven't read Catherine Coulter's FBI series, you should give hers a try. Very suspensefull, and full of action.

I'm starting to branch out on my books now, as I am current with most of the authors on my list. Trying to find new ones to add. Got any suggestions?

Thanks for the recommendation.

If you like Mystery/Crime Fiction novels then you can never go wrong with Michael Connelly (Ive read all his novels) and Harlan Coben (Ive read all his novels).

Harlan actually mixes dark themes with dark humor very well. His stories are always plot twisters but with substance.

I picked up Coben's "Gone For Good" a few weeks ago and read it. That was the first one of his I have read. You can bet I'll be looking into more of his books. I really enjoyed it. As I said, I'm trying to add more authors, so I saw that one at Wal-mart and picked it up. I got into it pretty quickly, and I was impressed. I'll definitely be getting more of his books.

If your willing to look around, I recommend his first novel called "Deal Breaker". Its a novel about a sports agent called Myron Bolitar who gets involved in a kidnap mystery. The novel is an introduction to a heap of stellar characters and is funny without being absurd. Its the first novel of a 8 book series about Myron Bolitar. The beautiful aspect of the series, is that each novel highlights different things about the characters life, it never relies on past succees and seeks to pave new ground. Which keep the overall story refreshing.

This series is my favorite, second to Harry Bosch by Michael Connelly.

I'll check around at the local stores for it, if I can't find it here, there's always ebay.

I think you'll like Catherine Coulter's FBI series. The two main characters are these agents named Sherlock and Savich.

I like the ones that I can follow a character through a series. That's probably why I'm drawn to Evanovich's number series. They are suspense, but have things that will make you bust a gut too. My Grandmother actually got me hooked on her books. I stumbled on Coulter's books when I got a gift certificate to Barns&Noble for Christmas several years ago, bought one that was in the marked down aisle, and ended up going back and getting the entire series so I could read from start to finish.

Thanks!!

I actually haven't read the book. I just saw it in one of the interests sections. The title seemed interesting so I clicked on it and I'm not disappointed. Now, I really feel like wanting to read the book from your description. I have always been interested in crime novels and lately I can rarely find ones with a female lead on it as well. I always like it when there's a female point of view involved.

Also, the fact that Edgar Allan Poe's poems are going to be included has got me really curious. I love his poems especially the last 2 lines of Alone. After exams week I'll probably get a copy. Thanks for the rec!
