I always liked James Bond, he had pretty good appeal. I remember when I was young they had 00 heaven week where they would show every james bond movie in order over several weeks on channel 3. I really loved those films.

Ian Fleming wanted to get the most boring and basic name there was, and when he noticed on his table the author of the book on birdwatching that he was reading was called "James Bond" he resolved to steal it. Haha I would have done. There's something about the way Ian Fleming managed to convey his military history and his knowledge about secret operations onto the page mingled with his ability to write a really good spy thriller. And what you come out with, is a set of incredibly fun and light and more often than not engaging novels.

Sean Connery was the first and often said to be the best, and while I reserve judgement on who played the role better than all the others (online at least) I think its worth pointing out that if it were not for Sean Connery's phenomenol take on the role we wouldn't have seen the 20 flicks that came past Dr No.

And while I dislike how the turn of modernisation and dare I say Americanisation that has swept over the series like a plague these last few films, Casino Royale was a breath of fresh air and there may be light at the end of the tunnel.

Quantum of Solace, the new Bond film due out this year, is based on one of Fleming's strangest stories involving the classic spy hero, a story in which Bond is not even a central character... not even a novel but just a short story published first in a magazine. Yet it will interesting to see how this taken across to the big screen. Oh I've no doubt there will be very little of the original plot (if you could call it a plot) left in, but I think there is still vitality in the Brocolli family to force some sort of vision that goes, if not hand-in-hand, somewhat along the lines of Fleming's original nuances.
