Has anyone here experienced bed bugs before? Have you seen them or felt them in your bed? If so are there any tips on how to get rid of these little critters?
At the moment, I feel itchy most nights sleeping in my bed. Cannot see anything, but I am sure there must be bed bugs....

Bed bugs definately are real. I've never had them, but my cousin who lives in NY is infested with them. I was reading in our local newspaper that there seems to be an epidemic of them. The stuff they used to use to keep them away is no longer used for health purposes. It was called Deet, so there is a surge of them here lately. From what I understand, once you get them they are nearly impossible to get rid of and you can get them from just about anywhere, hotels, a friends house, etc. You might want to call in a professional to have a look

Geez, frightening to think bed bugs are becoming an epidemic and that it is hard to get rid of them. ALmost feel like chucking out the mattress, however it is only 6 months old, brought brand new. I might look into calling professional in, if it continues. Thanks for your response.

Hi there! I feel for you and I know that these little things are real. Although the babies (newly hatched ones) are almost clear and too small to see with the naked eye - the adults grow to be the size of about an apple seed and they do not move fast enough to be missed. If you have bed bugs in your bed, more in likely there would be adults in there that you could see.
While some of the bites from the bed bugs cannot be seen, most are extremely itchy and produce a small swollen welt area at the area where you were bitten.
Alot of the methods used to get rid of bed bugs does not completely work and if you have them, only professionals can get the job done right.
If you do not see bed bugs in your bed or your itchy spots do not welt up and become swollen, then you may just have developed an allergy to your sheets, the fabric, the laundry soap or fabirc softener, or even the material that the mattress itself is made of. Even if you didn't have these allergies before, doesn't mean that you can't develop them later.
Hope everything works out! Good luck!!!!

Hi Jenny, thanks for your detailed response. I have not seen these bed bugs, but it does feel like little things biting me. However I do not wake up in welts. Maybe you are right could be laundry soap I am using. I will try swapping brands. But do not seem to have same problem if I sleep elsewhere in the house using sheets washed in same laundry powder. Thanks for your advice I will look into changing brands of powder. And see if I can see any little bed bugs.

Actually, only the newly hatched ones are too small to see with the naled eye. The adults grow large enough to see...just like fleas. Washing the bed sheets won't do the trick because the bed bugs nest inside the mattress fabric, in carpets, in floorboards, in curtains, in the groves of wall paper - they aren't just confined to the bed. The just got their nickname as "bed bugs" because the bed is where most people get their bites and that is because the are there for 8 or so hours a night.

Yes, there is such a thing as bed bugs. You need to change your sheets and then before putting them back on vaccum your bed. I know that sounds crazy, but it actually works. I worked for a company that sold special vaccum cleaners and you would be surprised at just what comes out of the beds when you vaccum them. give it a try and do it often. you will see a tramatic difference. good luck and God bless

When i was a little girl my mother and I were cleaning out from behind my bed, She reached down and pulled out a handfull of dust and woolies. In the ball of dirst she held in her hand were small black bugs that looked like ants. They were not in my bed but rather behind the bed next to the wall. The only way I know how to get rid of these bugs, after scouping them up in clumps of dirt of course, is to keep your room clean and dust and dirt free.
I have never heard of anything like this or of anyone with actual bugs in their bed. But, sleep tight
and don't let the bed bugs bite ;)
