Will Big Brother 9 be cancelled? |
|
So, TMZ is reporting that and executive director from Autism United has asked that Big Brother be cancelled because they chose to air what Adam while using the word "retards". How do you feel about this? Perhaps Big Brother should not have aired it but, I disagree that it was to reach a goal. They didn't put it in the commercials and, yes, they do edit things for the best content but, I don't think that it should be cancelled. Adam should not have used that word. But, he did, it caused controversy inside the house between he and Sheila, CBS aired it. So what! Get over it!

The word "retard" is simply a word, and I think that the way CBS handled the situation was very graceful. They not only showed that it's wrong to say what Adam said, but proved that the other contestants reacted negatively to what he said. If anything, such a reaction should be chalked up as a victory for Autism United, not a reason for canceling the show.

cortjo73 (2068) | 7 months ago | Well said! I hope others see it the same way you did. It wasn't like his use of the word was celebrated by everyone in the house. People didn't even snicker at it if I remember correctly. So, he didn't get away with using it! Like I said, people just need to get over it! It was said, he apologized for it after it was called to his attention for being inappropriate, and Big Brother did what should have been done!

2. patgalca (5027) | 7 months ago | For crying out loud, you can't unring a bell. Sure, maybe they should have edited it out but it was part of showing the character of the guy. What would be the point in cancelling a show after the fact? I am more concerned with the fact that all twists are off. There are no surprises anymore (though Sheila and Allison sure have cooked one up). Revealing the twists is a first in Big Brother history but there is something I have thought about. Because they are voted out as couples, this show is only going to last a few weeks. People are leaving two at a time. I wonder if that means we will still have a Big Brother in the summer as usual because this season will be really short. But again, no cancellation. What's done is done. They bleep out all sorts of swearing and show some pretty heavy sexual scenes during prime time, but they don't get cancelled for that. Normally when the guests enter the house it is live and something like that wouldn't be able to be edited out, but this time they didn't do it live so it could have been edited but why? How can you show how upset Sheila is with Adam without showing why?

cortjo73 (2068) | 7 months ago | Exactly! I get that people might have had their feelings hurt by what Adam said but, get over it! He made a mistake. No reason to cancel a show over what one person said. If things got cancelled for stupid stuff said, I can't imagine this world. We all say and do stupid stuff. Most of it is not so public. It is why there is the saying, "Open mouth, insert foot!" We all make mistakes because is is the most bare bones part of our human nature. The folks at Autism United need to remember that "To err is human. To forgive, devine". Forgive and forget folks! He learned his lesson!

patgalca (5027) | 7 months ago | Also, this show is called Big Brother for a reason. These houseguests tend to forget there are cameras on them at all times. It is not like this is some professional television personality who should know better.

cortjo73 (2068) | 7 months ago | Good point! They are big public figures. They aren't people of the cloth or political candidates. They're just people who are trying to make a few hundred thousand dollars by fighting with one another, fighting against one another in competitions and living with one another while hating one another!

4. michelyn (572) | 7 months ago | Of course the show should not be cancelled! I'm sick and tired of people wanting to make reality TV non-realistic. People say stupid things and things that are out of line. If a TV show got cancelled everytime someone didn't appreciate something that was said by one of the people, we would only have the news and cartoons and even the news is questionable. The outrage that was expressed by the other people on the show showed that his terminology was totally inappropriate. If anything, Adam should lose his job because if he works with disabled children and then doesn't have any more respect than to speak derogatorily about them, he has no business being around these children.

cortjo73 (2068) | 7 months ago | I agree! It is a reality tv show and he was realistically being as much of an idiot as any other real person can be. And, this is one of the reason that I love Big Brother. CBS and Big Brother do censor some stuff that goes on inside of the house but, it is as raw and as real as it gets. I also agree that if everything got cancelled for bad stuff said, there would be nothing to watch. I doubt that there is a man or woman alive that can honestly say that they have never made a derogatory response about someone else. Can you imagine if each person were "cancelled" for making some boneheaded remark?

jellyjam74 (177) | 7 months ago | i agree completely...i mean it's reality tv...you know, supposed to be real? and people say stupid things all the time, just usually the whole world isn't watching-but that's what makes it so good-the unpredictibility of it all-you just never know.

6. vulgarlittleprincess (464) | 7 months ago | I do not agree with the potentioal canceling of the show Big Brother 9. The show in questions has already been aired so what is the point in cencelling the rest of the shows once the tainted show has been aired? Also, people say inappropriate things online all the time! Why should a show be cancelled over someone saying something innapropriate? It was definatly innaproptiare but by no means the worst thing he could have said there were no profanaties involved. I am sure his actions were delt with in the house and with his partner. His job where he worked with 'fill in his innaproprate word here' probably had something to say to him also about his lack of respect for the children under his care. Not to mention the families of these people he is watching over were probably very very offended by his actions and his words.

7. spiderlizard22 (1813) | 7 months ago | I totally agree with you on that one. They should get over it. It is just a word. Sure words can hurt but if you let it bother you then it will hurt you even more. Try to at least lessen the pain of words if words bother you that is.

cortjo73 (2068) | 7 months ago | I agree! We give power to mean and derogatory words by our reactions to them. If you decide to just let it roll off of your back, those words become powerless!

8. starr4all (2046) | 7 months ago | I have to agree with you on this. It just showed his character and it was good that the show also showed how the houseguests reacted to it. I don't think it will be canceled.

cortjo73 (2068) | 7 months ago | I doubt that it will be cancelled too. I think that Autism United should try to look at it another way. If they can calm down and see that Adam didn't get away with it, then maybe they can see past their anger and accept it as a lesson learned on Adam's part.

9. MooPile (1327) | 7 months ago | No it shouldn't be cancelled. Adam did make a bad remark about Autistic children, but rappers make bad remarks against all sorts of races and sexes, so should we ban rap music? Should we ban racism? White people are racists towards every other race just as blacks and Mexicans are racists towards other races as well. Adam needs to apologize, but people apologize too much for petty stuff. BB won't be cancelled. It's one of CBS's top rated reality shows.

10. SuzyPuppyChese (567) | 7 months ago | I think that comment reflected on Adam, not the show. They already censor quite a bit visually and the audio as well. As you say "so what, get over it!"
