Do any of your CATS LICK window BLINDS?

I have had many dear cats live with me over the years. But one of my current kitties has always liked to lick the window blinds. Obviously, this is not clean, thus safe. And she knows she is not supposed to, because she gets all panicky when we scold her, and she licks faster, because she knows we are coming over to pull the blinds up. We don't know how to get her out of this habit. And additionally, do any of you guys clean your blinds? And how? It's like a little addiction of her, especially in the morning. Of course she loves to look out the window, but it is not because of that.

Ed and my son - This is Ed and my oldest son. Ed is the one that cleans blind cords.
I thought my cat was the only one. He goes crazy for the cords on my blinds. He will clean them all day if I didn't stop him from doing it. I gave up trying to figure out why they do the things they do.

Ed has serious health problems. He has urinary crystals that act up when he is bad and eats something he shouldn't, a few days ago he started showing blood in his stool, I am waiting on the lab results from that. He is a bad cat, he eats everything and loves to lick. He licks us until our skin is raw. I have a spray bottle that I discipline the cats with but he still lick the blind cords. He knows he is not allowed and when he sees me coming he licks faster until I am in shooting range and then he runs away. Cats can be so frustrating but I love them.

Glad we found each other. ;o) Ha. But my case is not the cords. The blinds themselves. We have to figure out how to stop them. I'm sure the dirt isn't good for their tummies! Thanks

In our old place Vanessa use to chew on the blinds. I was told it was because the previous owner had a cat and she could smell the cat on the blinds. To clean them, I have a blind cleaner. Looks like fingers on a plastic wand that picks up dust.

She never tried on other blinds? That is great that you clean them. Is there a name for that? I'd be interested in buying the cleaner. Where did you get them from? Thanks so much.

No. It was only 2 set of blinds in the home and since we moved she hasn't touched the blinds. I am not sure where I got it from. I think my Mom get one fore me. She use to have blinds in her mini-van and she used that to dust them. You may want to try the automotive section or the window treatment section in wal-mart.

Cats do things just because. If you want to clean your blinds, take them down and find a way to hose them, or soak them. if you can, put them in a tub with warm, soapy water and gently sponge them down, then rinse well. Just be careful to keep the very top out of the water. Then dry them the best you can and re-hang them. put towels under them on the sill and leave them down & in the "open" posistion. This should get the worst of the dirt off them.

Thanks for the quick reply, at least the part about cleaning the blinds. ;o) I feel so lazy though, thinking I have to take them down, run water, let dry, etc. But I should take your advice and do that at least now and then. Appreciated. :o)

I bet it's cute. But I hope it is safe for the body too. What would happen if WE ate soap? Anyway, I'm glad you guys are so cuddly and sweet. During lunch today, my cutie was draped around my shoulders. :o)

your kitties so unusual. we haven't have some kitty like that but i guess you need to often clean your blinds for her not to be panicked if you scolded her. its better to clean the blinds, just use a wash clothed that is clean and clean it every night or may it be day. as not to be afraid of what your pet may lick will be dirty. thanks friend jhelai

Jhelai, Nice of you to reply to my postings(which I make start up quite sparsely on here). My family has just mostly changed to keeping blinds up all the time. For times when we have to put them down for short periods of time, we make sure immediately to bring them up again as soon as it is okay to. If she (our silly cutie kitty) runs to it, with stern but not mean sounding, voices, we tell her not to. Yes, she is the only cat I've ever seen or had in my family to lick on shades/blinds.
