Should a bill be passed giving grandparents the right to visitation nationally?  

I don't think there should be such a law. I think it should be a case by case thing. Granting such a law will open the doors to so many things. What if a parent is protecting thier children by not letting the grandparents see them because of a bad situation? Then the grandparents can go and take them to court to make the parents let them see the children? That's not right. It should be up to the parents and what is in the best interest of the children.

I too believe it should be a case by case thing. I agree that Grandparents play a very important role in their grandkids lives. And as we see alot lately, the Grandparents are the ones usually raising the Grandkids for whatever reasons. If only our society was still what it use to be. Now, everytime something happens docotrs want to put everyone on prozac or xanax and talk to them about suicide. Who use to think of suicide back in the day. We mourned, talked about it and dealt with it. I work in the medical field and see that so many people are on anti-depressants, and in cases like these, I think maybe the parents should be evaluated, and maybe the grandparents are better suited to take care of the children....

Grandparents already have rights. Current federal legislation requires courts to recognize and enforce the rights of grandparents state by state and case by case. And while I also agree that grandparents play an important role in the development of children, I would not support the passing of any bill that gives the federal government more control over the personal lives of its citizens. Really, we should be working to preserve our rights as a nation rather than allowing Congress to hack away at what's left of them.
